Ah, I hadn’t looked in here for a while!

Looks good for B-grade, A-grade not so healthy!

Where are we at with B-grade entries? Could you post a list of all the players, goalies, teams etc. so we can start looking at where to put players etc. Becky was going to play in goal for Claires team, but with two paying individual goalies entries last night and Becky not being willing to pay, then she might have to miss out, so I particuarly need the info. on goalies so I can let her know what’s going on.

And yes, of course if individuals sign up on time and teams don’t, then the individuals get priority.

The last time I’d asked about going up to Christchurch I’d been told there was no way of getting ice time before 12pm even in the summer.

However the Aardwolves said last night that any time from October to March there should be plenty of ice time available.

So I suggested they book us in some time and we’ll turn up. They weren’t keen on October as they have some other teams visiting around that time.

How about mid November? Would that be after or before uni. exams?
Travel up on Saturday morning, play a game in the afternoon, one at night, then another the next morning before heading back to Dunedin?

Yeah, the photos page will be getting an overhaul at some stage. I’ve been trying to find the best (ie: easiest) way to do it, and I think I’ve come up with something recently. It’ll take me a while to get it up and running though, and my darned laptop broke yesterday and now wont boot. Have just resurrected a REALLLLY old PC with like 32 MB RAM and stuck Linux on it, now need to learn how to use Linux before can sort out the photos gallery! This might take me a while but I’ll get there eventually, or I’ll fix my laptop, whichever comes first.

Thanks for the comments though, I wouldn’t have added the text otherwise. I could add the text to the current photogallery but it’s a pain coz I need to modify like a billion pages. The new design should be much easier to deal with – if it works.

Well you’ll be back in time for the DIHL atleast.

Good luck for the game tonight Playing the Moose is fun, I played against them in Gore a few years ago. We had like a thousand people cheering us on (most of Gore!), and the kids kept asking us for our autographs and cards – the Moose handed out baseball style cards with their mugshots on.

Most of the bugs are fixed now.

The photos gallery is now split up into seperate pages with a simple sub-menu at the top of each page.

The competitions page is pretty much the same, but I’ve added a sub-menu to the top to help with navigation. I may or may not split that page up, depends if I get round to it. It’s easier dealing with single pages, particularly at this stage as I haven’t completely sorted the coding of the site yet and don’t want to have to modify a gazillion pages.

in reply to: Site + Forum #1296

Hmm, I was intentionally trying to avoid that as I was finding that people weren’t rifling through all the different pages and just read a couple before stopping. I thought maybe putting them all on the same page would be a little easier as you can just scroll down and read them all sequentially.

I’ll be adding a sub-menu to the photos gallery soon because of the image loading issues it’s having so I might transfer that design over to the competitions page so that you can atleast skip to the section you want.

The other reason for keeping them all on the same page is that it’s less for me to maintain which is nice. I’ll think about it though and might change it later on.

Oh yeah, a lot of them are quite brief too and don’t really deserve their own page as such. But I guess I could just combine a bunch of them and stick them on a page labelled “other competitions”.

Ryan,

PS: just found another bug too, the forum is sposed to open in a new window, not in the current one. I’ll fix that tomorrow probably.

Argh, just did a big update of the site. But it seems the new photos gallery page wont load
Plus the link to this forum is wrong Hopefully I’ll have these things fixed soon. Although I’m not sure what the problem with the Gallery is.

Ryan,

Edit: forum bug is now fixed.

Excellent pickings Kyle!

Although I think some Beasts might have a few issues with you! And Matt A will do his best to prove you wrong. Oh yeah, and I’ll laugh at anyone who tries to take on Toby, he’ll simply squash anyone who comes near him.

1:05 is fine for the next league coz we’ll be running over two nights

Here’s an email from me to Marita Soper (Gore club organiser) I thought people might be interested in.

Ryan,

Hi Marita,
Am emailing about two things:

Firstly Matt Aitken is organising games for a new team called the Dunedin Phantoms. My old team the Ducks is gone and has been replaced by this new one. Matt can be contacted at

.

Secondly, below is a part of an email I got a few minutes ago from Kyle Matthews who along with me helps organise the DIHL (Dunedin Ice Hockey League). Basically he’s suggesting that we ask other clubs (ie: yours) to compete in the Dunedin Ice Hockey League A-grade next season (starting September). The A-grade is a new thing for us and will be a significant step up from the existing open competition we have at the moment and should be a about the right level for your club, all games will be non-checking. This would require you travelling for every single game which would be annoying I know but we could try and arrange the game times to make the travelling a little less troublesome for you, we could also arrange it so that travelling teams only have to play say three round robin games for the season, whereas local teams would play six, we’d just make all your games count for double points to compensate for the less games. This is just an idea at this stage, even if your club is keen we’d still need to run it by the DIHA etc. first and work out suitable ice times.

Cheers,
Ryan

Message from Kyle Matthews:
At some stage, I wonder if we should consider allowing an outside team
to play in the DIHL. Like, if Gore wanted to put a team in, how could
that be managed. Maybe have them only turning up every second week
during round-robin, and playing once at 7pm, and again at 9pm? One of
our teams would have to play twice in a night as well – maybe once at
6, and again at 9. I don’t know if that would work for them, but it’d
be a good way to help them out, and build our competition if it could.

Or alternatively looking at not having their games during the week, but
on a Saturday and telling teams that they have to be prepared to play
one Saturday game each during the DIHL. I’m not sure if any teams
outside of Dunedin would be keen, but I know they have problems down
there with finding people to play against, so I’d be curious to hear if
they’d be keen to travel that much. In the upcoming competition, for
example, an outside A grade team would have to travel 4 times (3 times
to complete 6 round robin games, once more for final). An outside B
grade team would probably have to travel 5 times (3 to complete 5 round
robin, plus 2 for semi finals and finals week).

in reply to: Site + Forum #1293

I’ve never heard of that before. I’ll look into it.

Crazily we’re going to run out of server space soon! We’re currently using ~80 MB out of 100 MB!

There are higher quality versions of the 320×240 res. videos here…
http://www.dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi/videos/unused/
I haven’t bothered posting them on the main site as we’ll eventually run out of room, but they’re there for your amusement.
