Ah, yeah, apparently I had it around the wrong way. I didn’t recognise the name of the Canterbury player so just assumed it was someone from Auckland.
So Cantabrian supposedly poo’d in Auckland players glove. Yuck!
Hope he pays for a new pair of gloves.

[/quote:18pjjoh3]I had exactly the same response whilst being told while driving along in a car. It seemed I was the only one who thought it was hilarious. Apparently I am “sick and twisted” for laughing at it. I was also the only male in the car; not sure if that had any bearing on my being the only one there who thought it was funny.
imported_RyanMemberDoes anyone know what the deal is with the Auckland Junior player who apparently took a dump in one of the Canterbury Juniors players gloves last night?
I’ve heard stories, but none of it seemed particularly believable.

[/quote:vtnha512]Canterbury didn’t win any games in any grade.
imported_RyanMemberAuckland Women beat Southern Women 4 – 2. Good game, but Auckland players just too strong for the Southern defense.
One of the Auckland players put one hell of a slapshot in top shelf at the end.
imported_RyanMemberSouthern Juniors won a rough game against Canterbury earlier today. Regan Wilson from Southern and one of the Canterbury players got game misconducts for fighting. Souther won fairly convincingly, although they didn’t help themselves much by getting lots of pointless penalities. I can’t remember the exact score but it didn’t look like Canterbury stood much of a chance.
The Southern Women vs Canterbury Women game was quite lop-sided too. Final score was 5 – 2. I’m not sure how Southern are going to go in their next game against Auckland though. They really don’t look like they have the same fire power that the Auckland squad has. There’s at least three players on the Auckland team with good shots on them, whereas Southern only has one (Susan Green) and Canterbury none. I suspect the Southern team will be able to keep up skating wise with Auckland at least.
Southern Peewees also cleaned up this morning apparently. I didn’t see that game and I’m not even sure who they were playing (Canterbury I think) but the score was 10 – 1 (or something similar).
imported_RyanMemberOh, heh, forgot about that. 5 – 1 Auckland I think.
imported_RyanMemberAny reports from the games?
I saw the Canterbury vs Auckland womens game last night. Quite lop-sided. Auckland has some big, fast, strong players who could clearly out muscle the Canterbury players. Canterbury started with Sarah in goal, but switched to Lyndal half way through the second period which helped quite a lot, but still wasn’t enough to hold off some of the stronger Auckland players. Brydie Gibbings was doing a good job weaving through the Auckland defense, but couldn’t get close enough to land a shot past the goalie. Some of the Auckland players looked like they were coast a bit, I guess saving themselves for their next game against Southern who they also beat quite convincingly yesterday (or so I heard – I didn’t see that game).
imported_RyanMemberKeith would have been about four years old then.

I guess I missed it ….imported_RyanMemberIsn’t there surely a generic winging system in place for teams to use when they feel it necessary? I’d have thought that would be the idea place to file referee complaints to.
When Kyle and I were running the Dunedin Ice Hockey League we always filed all complaints through one email address and dealt with them accordingly. I’m not sure if we received any official complaints about referees, but if we had, we would have found a way to deal with them at the time.
You need to be careful of adding too much bureaucracy in place when there’s already a system in place to deal with odd-ball complaints.
imported_RyanMember@Rhys – What the fruck?
imported_RyanMemberI would have thought the issue of a shortage of referees at all was more dire than a shortage of highly trained referees – at least in Dunedin it seems to be. We certainly have more referees down here than we had a few years ago (ie: we had none at all), but there always seems to be an issue of scratching together someone till fill in at the last minute.
imported_RyanMemberYou are taking a top-down approach to referee improvement. Perhaps a better approach would be to take a grass roots approach and try to drive up the number of referees we have. This gives you a larger pool of referees to choose from, creates more competition amongst the referees and increases the likelihood of some of them going overseas for more experience.
Dunedin did this a few years ago and the proof is in the pudding. The standard of refereeing in Dunedin has skyrocketed to a level we only dreamed of a few years back.
imported_RyanMemberSouthern looked good yesterday, but a couple of their players just got lazy towards the end and allowed the Auckland team to sink an unexpected goal towards the end.
