I have a white Queenstown Stars jersey. I was going to put it on Trademe, but I doubt anyone will want it, so it’s free to a good home.

You will need to pick it up before the 28th December or it’ll be put out with the rubbish.

I guess this issue in a nutshell is … everyone is aware of the issue, but there aren’t any stellar ideas on how to solve it.

A Junior league of some sort could work well – if the numbers are there.

A more consistent social checking league might help transition the players from Juniors into the senior ranks then. Then when they get a few years older and can’t be bothered running around hitting each other, they’d hopefully transition to an SNC league. There’s been a few social checking leagues over the past year or so, but they’ve been a little sporadic which doesn’t help with player retention and making sure people know about it. Again, I think finding players for a league like that might be problematic.

    All very tricky problems.

Taking the LONGGGG view … tripling the number of peewees would would make sure that even though many would drop off, you’d still get roughly triple the number of players making their way through to senior level and hence solving the player numbers issue. Of course, that might just mean that the Thunder ends up full of 15-20 year old super stars, but that might shunt some of the older ones off the list and bolster the social checking league numbers. Who knows.

I assume you are referring specifically to the Dunedin Ice Hockey Association?

You are definitely correct. This has been a problem for a long time now. There hasn’t been a very good transition for players moving from Juniors upwards as long as I can recall. I don’t have any good ideas on how to improve it though other than making a more coherent league structure from peewees -> Seniors.

Header image has been replaced with pictures of players in DIHA uniforms. If anyone has better quality ones please pass them on! The ones we’ve got aren’t exactly great quality. I photoshopped them a bit, albeit they’re probably a bit bright now, but will do for the mean time. They’re at least wearing the right uniforms now instead of our oppositions!

The redirect is for SEO purposes, the lack of www is simply because adding it is completely pointless. www sub-domains became irrelevant before most of us even started using the web.

    Your suggestions seem reasonable.

I’m guessing the DNS stuffs probably sorted itself out now, so I’ve removed the redirect and the actual domain should be working fine hopefully …

If it isn’t working for you, don’t worry, it’ll sort itself out within the next 24 hours automatically.

in reply to: DIHA website #17276

No you didn’t. You haven’t checked since I last posted

BTW, the DIHA has [b:2ccfhu7h]NEVER[/b:2ccfhu7h] been at http://www.dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi. I keep see WWW written on the front of the URL from official DIHA stuff, but it has never had that sub-domain. It’s always been redirected to the non-www URL.

It just hasn’t propagated for you yet. If you are on the uni. network you are probably experiencing the same issue I’m having. They keep flicking between the old DNS and the new. Navigate to the following URL and you will see it:

    http://dunedinicehockey.pressabl.com/

I’ve been flicking between the old and new URL as I thought it would eventually correct itself, but it seems not, so I’ll just keep that sub-domain operational until later on tonight when it should definitely have propagated fully.

    Awesome.

And yeah, it could do with a big upgrade. When I posted that I was adding about a bazillion other things to the site and planned to eventually get back to it and rewrite it, update it etc. etc. but I must have forgotten about it. I only noticed it today as I was having trouble getting that page to work (URL kept screwing up).

I’ll hunt out those old photos at some point so we can use those on it too.

I’m quite keen to keep that section maintained as it’s the sort of information which could easily be lost in the midst of time. There’s not many people still around from the early days of the DIHA so it would be nice not lose all that history. I’m sure in 100 years time people will be fascinated by what happened back in the dark old days before the Thunder graduated to the NHL.

DNS seems to be bouncing around all over the place for me, so in the mean time I’ve locked it down to the following URL so that I can work on it right now … http://dunedinicehockey.pressabl.com/

Once it’s propagated I’ll switch it back to the usual dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi address.

Note to Kyle: I’ve shortened some of your posts titles so that they’re shorter which works a little better with the new design.

And before anyone asks, no the three header image thingy is not permanent, that’s just a stop-gap till I track down something better to put in there instead. If you have any good action shots of DIHA teams (with their new jerseys) please post them here for me to use

[s:1j5vwuu1]Oops, I forgot to copy most of the images and documents across. Knew I'd forget something! It'll be fixed soon.[/s:1j5vwuu1] [i:1j5vwuu1]Fixed[/i:1j5vwuu1]

EDIT: Darn it, there should be a different font used too. That’ll probably get fixed within the next week. It’s part of a larger problem I need to sort for another project.

    EDIT 2: [s:1j5vwuu1]Crap, links aren't working on the home page :([/s:1j5vwuu1] [i:1j5vwuu1]Fixed[/i:1j5vwuu1]

EDIT 3: It looks bad on mobile devices. I’ll be writing a new piece of software for doing that eventually (it’s something I intend to sell) so that upgrade will need to wait until that software is ready. In the mean time it’s at least functional on mobile devices, albeit things are a bit squished.
