In case anyone is confused, I merged the two DIHL topics together. I probably shouldn’t have posted a separate one in the first place.
imported_RyanMemberI wasn’t aware that kyle was providing commentary this season.
imported_RyanMemberGotta love James’ skate to the red line, then shoot approach ” title=”Cheesy” />
imported_RyanMemberBullfrogs got dealt a thumping 11 – 2 (or thereabouts) by the Superfly tonight.
Not enough defense on the Bullfrogs and letting the Superfly’ers cycle around behind the defense leaving Kara in some bad situations with three on noughts to deal with. Forwards kept crashing in on the defense to cope and all turned to poop. Breakouts were non-existent but that’s not unexpected in the B-grade. We (Bullfrogs) had two new players who had never played a game before and had only been to a single practice, but they seemed to keep their head up and were doing a good job of marking the Superfly players as best they could, they’ll rapidly improve over the next few games and some of our older hands like myself will (hopefully) gain some fitness as the season progresses. So despite a bad score line I think the Bullfrogs will do okay. The Superfly appear to be the John McGlashan team who have been playing together all season so probably won’t improve as rapidly as the Bullfrogs as the season progresses.
Superfly looked a bit wonky too. They had too many players trying to skate the puck straight up the ice. They were good at passing it in front of the net, but too much head down skating for them to see their team mates skating up the ice (as opposed to across which would make it a lot easier to receive a pass). If they face a more experienced team (Midgets maybe?) I could see their tactics failing as the defense will simply push them wide and leave them out in the cold on the boards and having to just dump the puck.
imported_RyanMemberEven in the absence of a coach, having somebody bossy enough to sort drills would be ok. Not ideal, but better than nothing.
9am on Sunday is an interesting time to have it. I’d probably turn up at that time, it would be a good way to wake me up in the morning ” title=”Cheesy” />
imported_RyanMemberI may come. Depends on my motivation at the time though so I wouldn’t rely on me to make up numbers.
imported_RyanMemberI’m aiming to retire at the ripe old age of 90.
imported_RyanMemberIs there a smaller gap than normal this season? Or no gap at all?
No gap at all seems a little odd, but I spose it gets the games over and done quicker.
imported_RyanMemberYeah, this is a brilliant job Pete has done. Big thumbs up ” title=”Cheesy” />

imported_RyanMemberHere’s the [b:1p1kuq1m]unofficial[/b:1p1kuq1m] run down of the DIHL B-grade Spring 2009 teams:
[b:1p1kuq1m]The Chiefs[/b:1p1kuq1m][/size:1p1kuq1m]
The chiefs are made up of a hotch potch of experienced and not so experienced players. Players to look out for include ultra aggressive Sonja Wood who is well known for her no holds barred approach to taking the puck. Veteran DIHA member Paul Roth will be a man to watch with his highly experienced hockey family available to provide expert advice. Dave Patchett will be very useful for providing in depth knowledge of the Midget players (two of his kids are on the Midgets team) and German superstar import Rieke Stackmann will be imperative her lightning reflexes and for game fixing due to her connections with the league organiser.[b:1p1kuq1m]Midgets[/b:1p1kuq1m][/size:1p1kuq1m]
The midgets feature the regular line up of players from the Dunedin Midgets team. He may be small in stature, but Nic Patchett is bound to cause some serious problems for their opposing defense. NZ rep. Stephanie Patchett will be the danger woman for the other teams and must be shut down at all costs. Justin Stevenson is another man to beat on the Midgets and backing everything up is Superstar goal tender Jaimee Wood.[b:1p1kuq1m]Super fly[/b:1p1kuq1m][/size:1p1kuq1m]
The Superfly team appears to be a hotch potch of Junior aged players who as in previous seasons are likely to take a very aggressive approach to their opposition. Players to watch out for include Sam Dodunski and Tom Craven.[b:1p1kuq1m]Bullfrogs[/b:1p1kuq1m][/size:1p1kuq1m]
The Bullfrogs feature a strong lineup. Anna Craw will be the teams danger woman for the opposing teams [b:1p1kuq1m]if[/b:1p1kuq1m] she can avoid another mid-season injury. Keith Dickson will bring a serious amount of experience to the team and the power man Jonathan Kitchen is bound to infuriate the opposition with his high powered wrist shots. Other players to watch include superstar imports Jaydee Cabral from the USA and tough guy Walter von Ballmoos from South Africa. Fresh off the NZ National champs are AIHA import Sarah Ward and pint sized but effective goal tender Kara Ross. There’s also a highly unfit gimp called Ryan who will hopefully not keel over with exhaustion due to sitting in front the of the computer for too long instead of getting off his ass and exercising ” title=”Tongue” />imported_RyanMemberUnofficial team rosters for the B-grade are available here … https://slapshot.hellyer.kiwi/general-chatter/ … ring-2009/
Players: For accurate information please check your emails or the DIHA site. These are unofficial rosters.
imported_RyanMemberWhere did you find out team rosters from?

imported_RyanMemberLots of Red Devils players in there.
Facinating to see Ryan Ruddle doing so well. He must be one of the few south island inline hockey players who have actually bothered to transition properly to ice hockey. Most of the top players seem to treat it as an amusing hobby alongside their regular sport of inline hockey.
