Hey everyone, it’s 12:39 in the afternoon, I’m pisssing around pretending to do work, but really I’m just surfing the net. I need a coke. Whilst doing nothing I remembered that I was once on a team which beat a whole stack of other players including ex-Ice Blacks Steve Jackson, Mike Sam and James van Leeuwen. So therefore I am better than the Ice Blacks. Perhaps we should organise a test match. Me vs NZ? Preferably non-contact coz I’m a bit of a sissy. God I’m wise, I’m like a geek, but a really holy one.
Please leave your comments and opinions on the issue, but based on the facts mentioned above, I think this argument works… Im pretty sure…

If you are giving them to a specific person, then just need to check their identity at the door with a simple list of people who have free access. If they’re not on the list, they’re not allowed in without a real ticket.
But yeah, I see your point, you don’t want counterfeiters out there, although you would soon know afterwards as you could track the ID number on each one and if there were double ups then obviously someone was cheating the system. Not helpful right there and then, but at least you’d know for next time. That would also require someone to go through and check all the numbers, so perhaps they wouldn’t get checked anyway … (thinking whilst typing here)
Tickets cost a dollar each? Sheesh.
Would it be possible to create non-official tickets and use those as giveaways to avoid paying a dollar for each one you gave away? Or would that not be allowed by the ticket direct people?

I assume Kyle is referring to handing them out to people who would generally not bother buying a ticket anyway. Things like radio promotions etc. If a radio show gives out 400 tickets, then chances are only a small proportion of them would be used, and those who do use them probably wouldn’t have gone if they didn’t get the ticket for free. There will be certain number of people who would have gone but didn’t because they by chance happened to get a free ticket, but that’s the only loss/devaluing which would occur.
I’m not saying it’s a good idea, but it’s definitely wouldn’t be a huge loss to the team/rink. Plus the rink would make money from food/drink sales from those who get freebie tickets, not to mention the free advertising obtained from it.
You guys have a totally different concept of thumped than I do.
Maybe I’m just used to getting my ass whipped at hockey, but 10 – 0 is not a thumping in my book. Heck, I remember being on the Dunedin Aces and being stoked when we kept games below that sort of score line.

Actually, if you could bring it to work tomorrow would be great. I’ll come borrow it, copy it and can bring it back to you by the end of the day if you like.
I think finding ways to encourage new organisers will help. The DIHA has made massive strides with removing their bureaucracy this year and I suspect some of the other regions would be wise to do the same.
Providing structured systems to help organisers settle in would help a lot too.
When I suggest someone organises a new competition I always get the same questions of “I have no idea how. Who do I ask? What do I need to do?” etc. and there is next to know documentation about this sort of thing other than some posts which Kyle and I have posted on here on occasion, most of which were directed at specific people.
If each region had set documentation (which was maintained and accurate) which outlined various procedures, then anyone interested in becoming involved could simply read through the docs to find out what needs to be done, how complex the process is and how to go about setting things up.
Of course that requires someone to do the documenting … which goes back to the lack of organisers problem, so it’s a circular problem
