imported_RyanMemberCool, looking forward to the video ” title=”Smiley” />
imported_RyanMemberYep, posters work well. Posting a PDF for download works okay too. I’m not sure many people bother printing them, but for the sake of posting a PDF online it’s well worth the 2 mins of effort to email it/post it online IMO.
The thing is, you’ve got people like myself who will happily post advertisements on the web, but aren’t willing to go hunting for news. I used to actively seek news to put on dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi, but in the past year I’ve lost interest and now just wait for it to arrive. In fact, unless it’s sent to me in an easily postable format (ie: already formatted or use in a news item) I generally don’t bother anymore (incidentally this is something which needs fixed, we need someone to volunteer to write new items for dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi).
With http://dunedinthunder.co.nz, what you can do is to setup news items about the games in advance of them even happening. So at the start of the season when you know the game schedules, you can setup a series of posts to be posted on the site at scheduled times. You only need to do it once and from then on they’ll be posted whenever they’re scheduled for. You couldn’t include many details in them since you wouldn’t necessarily know what would be happening, but at least there would be some sort of notification.
… come to think of it, perhaps SlapShot.net.nz would be a good place for us to setup an email notification/RSS feed system for reporting game times? Hmmmm … might need to ponder that one. We could feed it all through the forum system too, so that you guys could submit the game schedule yourself.
imported_RyanMember"Azzy77":xm0pcq7n wrote:Ryan you realise the NZIHL website has been up for 5 months now with the same schedule, the games were advertised on the radio, posters around uni and town, and article in fridays ODT, and two full page ads in the critic, so sorry we missed you. [/quote:xm0pcq7n]I know it’s my own fault not knowing the schedule and I’m fine with that, my point was that if I don’t know when the games are played then there are probably others who don’t know either. A simple web or email notification is all it would take.
imported_RyanMemberI think the forums maturity level just nose dived!

Maybe you should try and get in the team and show them how it’s done![/quote:1hs2ht65]Chris would be on the team, but he is unfortunately lacking in one area … skill
imported_RyanMemberChildren behave …. now I need to edit posts darn it!!!
imported_RyanMemberInforming club members of various jobs which are unfilled and making sure that decision making processes are held in a transparent manner rather than in secret helps a lot IMO. If people can see what you are doing and know what does and doesn’t need done then they can help criticize you to help you figure out how to improve things and if they’re particularly helpful will start volunteering to help.
Simpy listing all of the jobs which need to be completed and writing a brief article/emailing them to the members to see is always a good idea. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen that done within hockey circles. Usually it doesn’t work, but it at least lets people know that jobs need completed and gives them the option to chip in if they have a particular skill area that needs filled.
There’s too much secrecy amongst organisers and I have no idea why. Admittedly, organising things in public does open you to attack by dickheads, but personally I don’t care too much about that sort of thing. As long as it’s clear what is being done and that others welcome to contribute then the morons who whinge and complain generally just look like that … whinging morons.
imported_RyanMemberSimon was playing quite well too. He was a doing a great job of breaking through the Stampede defense and crashing in on their net at full speed. He would have sunk a few in if he had managed to deke the goalie, but his shots were directly at the goalie unfortunately. He has a really good snapshot, but he wasn’t getting the goalie out of position enough to create a hole big enough to shoot into.
BTW, who is number 7 on the Thunder? Seemed to be quite quick, but I couldn’t recognise who it was.
imported_RyanMemberYou were looking in fine form tonight too Stefan!

You don’t need to be so quick to pass ” title=”Tongue” /> I recall seeing you plowing towards the net at full steam and looking for a pass, you were probably better off charging the net and shooting yourself as your team mates were too far out of position.imported_RyanMemberThanks Peter ” title=”Smiley” />
imported_RyanMemberYep, crowd was pitiful. I think the number of Stampede and Thunder supporters was about equal.
The Thunder definitely need to promote their games better. I didn’t even realise it was on tonight until Jack sent me an MSN message wanting to know what time it was on so I looked up on NZIHL.com.
imported_RyanMemberGreat to see Tom Wilson get a goal. Was that his first in the NZIHL?
Game wasn’t as lop-sided as many expected. The Thunder held out the Stampede pretty well. Thunder shot a few too many goals straight at the goalies chest rather than deking like the Stampede players.
Score was 1-2 after the first period and 4-2 (I think, or was it 5-2?) after the second period, then 5-2 at the end.
Good game overall and nice to see the Thunders younger players getting plenty of ice time and making good use of it while they were at it.
imported_RyanMemberHockey organisers rarely seem to bother asking for help. Admittedly it is rare that anyone offers anyway, but it would make a LOT of sense to ask anyway. You never know who will be reading and decide to offer their time since they’re being asked. It will likely take trolling through 10-20 volunteers before you find that is actually competent, but those competent volunteers do exist and out there waiting to be asked … except they rarely are asked to help, or asked in a generally vague manner.
Saying “we need help, please volunteer” is pretty useless IMO. You need to be explicit, ie: we need someone to do the following jobs a, b, c, d and e. Asking for help in general almost never works in my experience.
