I’m not sure Dunedin was a good place to judge the Red Devils performance.
Will certainly be an interesting matchup. The battle of the NZIHL titans!
I went for a split series. The Red Devils will win the first game 2-1. That Mitalas guy will have a blinder and stop the Stampede cold apart from a top shelf slapshot from the point late in the third. The next game will be a white wash as the Red Devils goalie will have spent all night SlapShot’ing about how awesome he was in the first game.
imported_RyanMemberSorry, but I had to clip most of the first chunk of this thread. Explanation can be found here … https://slapshot.hellyer.kiwi/general-chatter/ … /#msg12779

[/quote:3jj09ne7]Presumably the SIHL since it’s their team.

[/quote:blyhybza]I heard a rumour about it being a problem with the cup dissapearing like was mentioned above. Not sure if there is any truth to that or not. I see no reason why they shouldn’t be allowed to compete, SIHL teams are just as likely to lose the cup as our neighbours to the north.

More events open for Canterbury and Southern teams combined would be great. It would help if the CIHA organised tournaments we could come compete in. The DIHA runs the Easton Cup, but it’s been quite disorganised and so some of the Canterbury teams gave up. Things should be better organised next year though as the new DIHA board has a better handle on the schedule/organisation of stuff like that.
I’ve tried organising events in Gore before, but the Gore Ice Hockey Club seem to be a black hole of communication so I gave up. Naseby is a popular destination and so is Tekapo.
Perhaps a two round social outdoor series should be organised in Naseby and Tekapo? SNC grade competition, open to anyone who wants to compete perhaps? That would probably get quite a few Canterbury entries to beef up the number of teams along with the regular SIHL entries who would probably turn up.
And no, I’m not volunteering to organise it ” title=”Tongue” /> Just spit-balling ideas here.
imported_RyanMemberI’m surprised the cup is opened up to any teams, regardless of location. It would be a nice competition to have as an event for foreign teams to participate in.
imported_RyanMemberI am not going to count up the number of own goals I have scored … it may be more than actual goals ” title=”Sad” />
imported_RyanMember"vpatrol":1d4binii wrote:In the case of Thunder, the DIHA gets all the gate receipts just like CIHA here.[/quote:1d4binii]Are you sure about that? The DIHA are not connected with the Thunder so it seems unlikely they would keep any gate receipts.

AFAIK the only non-privately owned major ice rinks in the country are Alexandra, Naseby and Dunedin.

Your idea is totally insane. Hopefully it works out!
imported_RyanMemberDamn. Oh well, at least they ran them close towards the end.
imported_RyanMemberSwarm were up 4-2 at the end of the second period, but the Red Devils fought back to wind the game up 6-4 at the end of the third.

imported_RyanMemberThe Alpine Ice Arena is the busiest rink in the country and it is privately owned. I’m not surprised they have more of these issues than anywhere else.
I would have thought that having a 30 min stop time third period would be more sensible than a 60 min running time. But I guess they’re trying to avoid confusing the spectators.
