I was wondering how long it would take for someone to question that ” title=”Tongue” />
He’s just a moderator. I don’t think it matters where the moderators are from as long as they can remove inappropriate posts and spam when needed. We can track exactly what is moved where, plus the forum is about to be moved to an external site anyway and will not be affiliated with Dunedin anymore. Vince uses the forum more than most of our other members so it made sense for him to have the ability to moderate posts.
FYI, from what I’ve heard via the grapevine, things are not as bad as what has been posted above.
imported_RyanMemberI attended the DIHA board meeting tonight. Issues have been raised by the Southern Ice Hockey League about the forum and the DIHA were sent a letter/email saying that they thought it was detrimental to the SIHL. I’m not going to go into the details of what the concerns were, partially because I don’t know all the details and also because it is largely irrelevant.
The DIHA had asked me to sort out a solution which would cut down on posts which could (in theory) be detrimental to the hockey organisations affiliated with this site. We implemented some new rules which you can see stickied to the general chatter forum which helped a little bit, but there are still a lot of posts in here, particularly to do with the Thunder which would likely not have met with approval by the SIHL.
There were some other steps I could have taken, such as requiring all users of the forum to confirm their identity before posting, or maybe only allowing DIHA members to post here. Beyond that we could have made the entire forum only viewable by logged in users. However I felt that those steps would lead to a dead forum, if guests can’t read it, they probably aren’t going to bother registering. Most locked off forums usually die a slow painful death.
The easiest solution to this that I could come up with was to simply move the forum to another site, entirely disconnected from any hockey organising body. Since the concerns the SIHL expressed were that they didn’t want to be affiliated with the forum, this should keep them and the DIHA happy. A motion to allow me to migrate all the users and posts to an external site owned and controlled by me was granted and so this forum will be found elsewhere by the end of the month.
In reality this should not change how the forum is used. It will be open to anyone to participate in and will operate much the same as the current forum does.
There are some major advantages to the new setup, particularly that it will no longer be dedicated to hockey in Dunedin. We rarely get out of towners posting on here and the majority of those that do are usually just trying to cause trouble and get banned promptly after (most of you probably don’t even see those posts as they’re removed lickity split).
Hopefully the reborn forum will become a hotspot for the regions to discuss both their local hockey games and the various national competitions such as the NZIHL, Nationals and so forth.
I only got back from the meeting about 30 mins ago so I haven’t got any details on the new site. Once it is up and running all of those who are registered will receive an email with a link to the new site. Your current usernames and passwords will work there too so no need to re-register.
FYI, this forum originally started out as an external site. It was not affiliated in any way to the DIHA but some time around 2006 I agreed to allow the DIHA to take control of the site (well sort of, I still controlled it but it became the official DIHA site). I migrated all of the topics and posts over at the time and so this is just a reversal of that back to the way it was.
If you have any suggestions for the new forum please post them below.
imported_RyanMemberThere have been some problems over the past few months with inappropriate posts and also some controversial posts, which although well attended by the person posting them, have been taken grossly out of context by those outside of the forum (ie: people who have read the forum but don’t post here). To avoid any problems we’ve had to clamp down on what is posted. I’m attending a meeting tonight where some further changes may be made to the way things are done. If you have any questions about what is appropriate, either PM me or any of the other moderators or post your question here. We’re not trying to stifle conversation, although sometimes that is what happens unfortunately when we have to remove posts.
imported_RyanMemberThank ” title=”Smiley” /> See you there.

Are you saying that the coach pulled the metal/wire netting off the windows at the rink because he didn’t like a call by the referee?

[/quote:3u0fnm6l]Do you know who is charge of this? Finding information out about the league is like getting blood from a stone some times.
imported_RyanMemberLol, not too many options to choose from there ” title=”Tongue” />
imported_RyanMemberWhere are all these comments about getting locked in changing rooms coming from? Did that actually happen?
imported_RyanMemberPart of acquiring sponsors involves creating an identifiable brand though. You don’t want to ruin that by branding yourself with your sponsors.
imported_RyanMemberNo, just a reference to league costs.
imported_RyanMember"Azzy77":uzelqgrl wrote:Having the Sponser as the biggest name on the Jersey in not uncommon in regional sporting competitions, see the examples.[/quote:uzelqgrl]Exactly, but the Thunder don’t have a single sponsor as the biggest name, they have [b:uzelqgrl]LOTS[/b:uzelqgrl] of them. The jerseys you showed above looked professionally designed and had only their major sponsor displayed prominently. Hopefully other NZIHL teams don’t go down this path.

[/quote:uzelqgrl]In comparison to the price to compete at Nationals for a single weekend, it is chump change.

imported_RyanMemberIs there any plan to change back to the old jerseys?
