That definitely helps then! What bars are open? I assume most of them have Sky Sport 1.

Terrace tomorrow at noon then I guess

in reply to: Stanley Cup Finals 08-09 #11194

The Baa bar does indeed have Sky Sport 3 apparently.

The Cook does not have Sky Sport 3 but they took my phone number and the guy will see if he can get it hooked up for the Stanley Cup. It doesn’t sound promising though.

    What about Eureka?

in reply to: Stanley Cup Finals 08-09 #11189

The Terrace sounds good to me since it’s just around the corner from my place.

The Cook had Sky the last time I was there, god knows how long that was though.

EDIT: I don’t know if they had Sky Sport 3 last time I was there.

EDIT 2: I’m about to go for lunch over in that direction so I’ll stop by and ask on the way past.

Whoever organised this deserves a beer … or maybe a keg. I thought getting the NZIHL here was pretty major, then getting the world champs was even more impressive, then seeing how packed out the crowds were despite negligible advertising was astonishing. But a fully televised event with the accompanying pro advertising is frickin’ amazing!!!

    Sounds good.

Perhaps that ‘open day’ could be a useful time to do the pond hockey idea? That way people can come along and join in without the hassle of needing equipment etc.

One end of the rink could have pseudo competitive pond hockey games (scores kept and winner decided etc.) whilst the other end could be an open session?

I was entertained by your wee joke. My girlfriend found it amusing as well.

Ryan’s earnest post somewhat rolled over your effort though.

I did get the joke. I feel misunderstood. I haven’t been able to play hockey in over a year, correct quote tags are all I have left to live for!

Quick tutorial for those of you who are QUOTE tag idiots:

Remember that if you open a quote [html][quote:36pkquf3][/html], then you need to make sure that you close it afterwards [html][/quote:36pkquf3][/html] or you will end up quoting yourself like vpatrol did above.

Here is an example which adds the quoted persons name and the URL of their post:

For what it’s worth, the level of refereeing in Dunedin has skyrocketed since 2005. It used to be just the occasional random player who decided they wanted a few bucks. They didn’t seem to care about the rules and enforced whatever they felt like. It was appalling. Thankfully the standard has shot up significantly since then and many of the referees seem to take a lot of pride in the job they do.

They also seem to quite openly admin that they need more experience, which is a nice change from the past. I recall trying to politely bring up the issue of refereeing standards in the past and being told that there was nothing wrong with the standard and that they had no intention of changing their ways! Thankfully a bunch of new people stepped up to the plate and took charge.

The (nearly) complete lack of full-contact hockey played here really doesn’t help the situation with checking unfortunately.

    Ah, that would make sense.

So is Jens still the unofficial head coach? Or is this mystery man actually calling the shots?

in reply to: Thunder Team #10619

Who’s this Garett Driscoll guy? I thought Jens was the head coach.

    That’s probably a good idea.

I would also consider it ice hockey. Depends on how you define ‘ice hockey’ I guess though.

AFAIK your sticks are allowed to contact, but players are required to avoid all physical contact in pond hockey. That doesn’t of course mean that there will be no contact, just that if there is then there has probably been a rule breakage.

I think it would be quite popular. It would be one of the easiest forms of hockey to organise as well since it is refereed and scored by the players.
