[/quote:v498a2q0]Yeah, I found that out tonight. There are some teams who aren’t IIHF members, but if they aren’t organised enough to join the IIHF they probably aren’t organised enough to make it to New Zealand for a tournament unfortunately.
A pity really as I quite liked the idea. I still think something similar should be pursued, albeit I guess it has to be non-national teams.

[/quote:34thcec4]It turns out it was just a training game, so they aren’t doing anything dodgy here. The Irish coach was on the ice the entire time and even put the Thunder team down to four players at one point to simulate a powerplay. The score wasn’t actually recorded but us in the stands kept track of the number of goals going in the net.

[/quote:3s4l6ejn]Nope, it doesn’t. It’s a training game, they didn’t even keep score and the Thunder were even placed into a powerplay situation mid-game despite there being no penalty. I was intentionally vague in the news item since I hadn’t heard it from anywhere official. The brief writeup on the result points out that it was in fact just a training game so it should be fine I think.
I’ll try to do a better/longer video of the Luxembourg team for you next time.
We need to sort a proper video feed for next time this event is on. I was dead keen to watch the Ice Blacks in Ireland the other year, but their live feed never came to fruition
