Does anybody know if there is going to be an Australia vs New Zealand test in August as the ODT claims?

MemberI see they’ve also registed the domain nzicehockey.com[/url:1qyqdfdw]
If the owner of the site is reading this … you should redirect your domains to a single domain rather than replicating the same site across multiple domains or you will end up with duplicate content issues which will mess up your search engine rankings.

MemberSomeone (can’t remember who) told me about five years ago that the Dunedin Ice Stadium building would cost about $10,000,000 to construct from scratch. Assuming that costs have shot up since then to $14,000,000 then the $20,000,000 quoted above isn’t that much overpriced. The Dunedin Ice Stadium building is quite large though, I suspect nothing of that size would be necessary for a rink based here in NZ, afterall, ours already holds two rinks, a shooting gallery, a bowling green, lots of changing rooms etc.

MemberThanks for the report Graham.

MemberI’d guess the big stands on the curling rink would go up very shortly before the event since they’re only temporary.
I heard that the rink had come up short on funding to pay for everything though so I’m assuming the part they could afford was the main permanent grandstand beside the rink. This is only a guess though, I haven’t heard anything official (or unofficial).

MemberIt sounds like a company trying to drum up support by advertising something can’t actually offer. Still, good to see someone trying to bring teams into the country.
I recall the Canadian Moose vs Ice Blacks games being touted on the radio as ‘Canada’ vs ‘New Zealand’ which it clearly wasn’t. It was a random team from Canada vs New Zealand which is quite different, but it is more likely that spectators will turn up if they think it is something more impressive

I’ve seen something like this in Calgary before. They’re kinda weird and I haven’t seen one used for an ice rink before, the one I saw was for volleyball I think.
A concrete base would definintely be a good idea for multisport purposes though. The sand based rinks always seem to have problems and can’t be used for anything else.

MemberJeeze, that’s an interesting find!
It certainly looks legit. I wonder if they’d use the Alpine Ice Arena though, I wouldn’t have thought it was up to scratch for a game like that.
EDIT: I didn’t read it properly, it says WestPac Arena and Vector Arena, so definitely brand new rinks.
