The big question I have is … how many of them will actually turn up?

It’s all good and well to have some crappy former NHL guys on your roster to make you look good in the media, but technically they could just yank these guys from their rosters at the very last minute and make some dumb claim about contractual issues or some such crap. I don’t think we’ve seen the end of the lies and it’ll be interesting to see how this pans out. Or perhaps the players will be turning up expecting to be paid, but will be treated the same as reported for those involved with the Crusty Demons event? If that happened, then things could get really messy as those players would then go back to Canada and the USA and be in the really sucky position of having to launch a legal challenge from across the globe.

[s:25epplcy]If $10,000 only pays for referees for the upper levels, then I'd say that is a bit too expensive to be considered an option (in the absence of someone willing to cough it up out of their back pocket). However if that $10,000 can include extensive training for the local referees, then it sounds like a step in the right direction IMO.

That way you get pro level refereeing for the NZIHL and consistent training for local referees. To my mind, the consistent training for local referees is far more important than providing refs for the NZHIL. Building for the future is paramount IMO.

Another use of $10,000 would be to use it for building up a larger pool of referees. I'm not sure how you would do that, but if the money could be used in a productive way to dredge up more referees, then the trickle down effect of having more of them, will in turn result in a better quality of referee. Plus it has the immediate benefit of easing the load on the existing referees.[/s:25epplcy]

Scratch that. I misread everything and assumed the $10,000 was for bringing in temporary pro referees to do the NZIHL It seems that $10,000 figure was for exactly what I was suggesting.

I’ve been getting tripped up with this (pardon the pun) in the lower levels lately. I keep letting penalities slide because the player was only impeded slightly. But I suspect I should be calling them for interference or tripping when the other player is noticeably slowed down. As a player I just plowed ahead and ignored such things and figured the referee would blow their whistle if it was deemed appropriate. As a referee, I think I tend to ignore it out of habit since I ignored it as a player … perhaps not the best practice <img decoding=” title=”Tongue” />

    I thought it was me.

I may not have used the correct word with “criminal” perhaps. To me, a criminal is someone who breaks the law, which is what I was meaning.

Well if the event is cancelled or they get a whopping big fine then there will definitely be a big benefit.

I’m kinda confused as to why you are so ancy about us trying to get a bunch of criminals in trouble. I’d have thought people would be more upset if we knew and didn’t do anything about it.

We’re pretty sure the Commerce Commission have already had some effect. The advertising was changed quite drastically not long after they had been in touch with the promoters after Chris’s initial report.

How about you guys stop whingeing ( because thats how I see it ) dont bother going along to the games but see it as an opportunity for people to see an ice hockey game of pretty good quality regardless of the smoke and mirrors by the promoters.[/quote:3dvk6lnv]

No. I’d rather whinge constantly and do anything I can to screw over the promoters. They’re scum and deserve to be treated as such. If we can do something to have them shut down, even if it’s only a remote possibility, or at the very least have them penalized in some way for their behaviour then we should do it.

I don’t have much useful information to report sorry.

They’re very interested in any information that we can provide relating to the issue. I’ve been feeding bits of information here and there to them, but I don’t know what’s happening with that information.

I’m even more confused. Who wrote what there? The quote tags seem to be jumbled.

We have a system for handling moderated posts which normally involves all moderators and admins being able to review each others changes. That system screwed up here unfortunately. If you feel the post was unfairly moderated, feel free to PM it to me or any of the other moderators to review.
