Yeah Stampede won the last 2 years. Oh wait, no, hold on. Just checking my stats. My bad, Stampede were 3rd place the last 2 years and didn’t make the final.

Yip your stats are correct,

Just checked mine and see that the Devils have finsih top of the Table the last two years and have choked in the finals the last two years – oh and just for historys sake Stampede have won both finals away from Queenstown.

History just for fun – Devils finished 4th in 2005 and hang on 3rd in 2006

focussing on this years home stats is a bit short sighted wouldn’t you say considering you have yet to play the one team that is your biggest threat? Therefore past stats are more reliable perhaps….3-3.

Past Stats are great

CRD 2 Finals 0 Titles
STP 2 Finals 2 Titles

That is the funniest thing ever, as to the first question – Thunder need to be there if this sport is going to continue to grow.

They’ve done fine and haven’t had their butts kicked too severely so pulling out would seem kinda stupid unless they can’t afford to foot the bill to compete.

Ummmmm 1 – 0 – 15 GDF -100

Imports would be a good start, coach maybe? – one who doesn’t play Ice Hockey like Chess (which I think has been proved doesn’t work)
would be good to get STP and DTN together pre-season.

Thanks that would be great! And yes I was dropped as a baby.
I am not a player hater, I don’t think I said anything about players

All it was, was an observation

No need to get all defensive, or are you just getting ready for the weekend

kelf, you’d be the first to throw up the bias flag if the games don’t go the home teams way then??

Of course, but who ever has allocated the ref’s for the games is just putting the ref’s and players under more pressure!
But the only time I will blame the ref’s are if they have a shocker, and in these games neither team can afford that.

Surely it would make more sense to have the Auckland ref’s in Queenstown this weekend and the Cant’s in Auckland – In saying that not sure which option is worse.

In the end, it should be the best team who wins on the day(s), if that is the case I will be a happy Stampede supporter!

We have plenty of qualified referees in Dunedin, the trick is getting them over the hurdles of doing their first games and then managing them up to being confident enough to be regulars.

At the higher level there’s a problem with top level contact games in that we really need supervision from top referees to get feedback on what we’re doing, and we have no senior referees in Dunedin.

Think the way to get around this could be to have pre season games maybe a couple of weekends before the start of the season, we could use rinks that can accomodate the ice time and give some new referees the whistle with the current ‘top’ referees as linemen to assist.
If the players know what is going on then I think this would be a good iniation period
then get these guys on the lines in as may games as possible.

Most of all the league needs support from all regions as has been said before we can bitch all we like about ref’s but we need to supply our own.

In saying that, it seems abit odd to have all Canterbury Officials in Queenstown for the two biggest games of the season.

Can anyone tell me if any official programmes are currently being run in NZ

They may have played better but really two record scores in two nights is a bit over the top
as Vpatrol said people are more interested in their books than the game, that ain’t good! or maybe that just the Canterbury crowd?

Actually that is the biggest loss or win depending on which team you support
in the 5 year history of the NZIHL!

History is being made in 2009

Looks like we are heading to Christchurch for the final, hope they can book enough ice time for the whole game!
