Completely off topic. Winter games next year isn’t confirmed, but it close to it. They’re looking at a several team ice hockey tournament, round robin, over about 5 days. They’ll be going for Pacific rim countries – Mexico, China, Korea, Taiwan, Australia.

I don’t think they’d be going for 20K+ spectators. Some NHL rinks don’t hold that many. If you could seat close to 10K would be good. Most pre-season games are like pre-season Super rugby games – tickets are cheaper because they’re trying out some players, some stars aren’t on the field, and they can take them out of town to places they wouldn’t use for a proper game where they’d want a big crowd for ticket sales.

We’d be the only building in NZ that could get close to that number. New stands behind the benches and temporary stands on the curling rinks would probably get us up close to 8000. Any where else would have to build an ice rink in a different building to get more than a couple of thousand in.

Looks like the last two games will be the tough ones. South Africa beat Ireland 7 – 2, the same score NZ beat them.

Mexico are up 3-0 over Israel (who NZ just beat 9-8) in the second.

What is it about Anna and getting injured on the ice? Is she OK?

Ryan Hellyer, you really need to get out more.

Just on Sonja, there was a Sonja listed in the Keas line up, but the surname wasn’t Texley. So I’ve emailed David to confirm if he actually meant her, in which case she’ll switch.

There are two goalies in the Bullfrogs, still figuring out if the team will have two or one of them.

I’ve got three of the four quarter final games, the Canada Germany game, and I’ll be downloading the semis tonight.

I’ve also got all their round-robin games except for the 2nd one (so I’ve got norway and the US game).

I can put them on my external hard drive and get it to you some time.

That’s not right. I’ve booked tomorrow at 7pm for an hour for beginners. It’s not an open practice, better players should go to the Thursday night SNC practice.

Some of us have to, y’know, work during the day. So shut up about being able to actually watch the ice hockey. Downloading the USA-Canada game now, will watch it tonight.

    Thanks Ryan,

It’s been a major job, and we’re taking some things on faith. Some of the things that are in the book, we currently don’t have full commitments from people that they’ll be organised. All the ice has been booked, but I can’t take responsibility for the rink cancelling our bookings.

There will be some errors in the book (I already found two after sending it to the printers, they’ve been fixed in the version on the web site), and inevitably some things will change during the year, and it will date, but we’re moving forward.

If anyone has suggestions or corrections for the booklet, email them to me and I’ll update the 2011 version as I receive stuff.

As a note, we’re still looking for people to do a bunch of jobs, mostly around SNC. We don’t have a manager for the SNC practice on Thursday nights – just someone to make sure that all the people that turn up for it play, it could be one of the SNC players. Also a person to organise an SNC team to play in the club night games on Saturday night (could be the same or different person). And if anyone is keen, someone to see if there is interest within the club to have a travelling SNC team (which we need to tell SIHL by mid-March). It’s a case of someone needing to step up to make sure that these opportunities happen for everyone else.

    Yes.

The calendar is updated (for pretty much the whole year).

Some parts of the web site aren’t up to date. The membership booklet which was posted is completely up-to-date and is the bible for the 2010 ice hockey season.

It’s somewhat a rule. The puck has to be in motion. You can’t just shut off a puck against the boards and hold it there if you’re not being checked. A goalie can’t hold the puck in their glove if they’re not being pressured. You can’t wait behind your net forever running down the clock.

(That might not be what the commentators were saying of course).

Yeah. We’re changing it again. Ice time at 6pm for training, open for beginners and intermediate level players (like end of last year). $10.

Beginners proper starts next Sunday, 7pm. $10/session or $300 for a full year of 35 sessions.
