Good news Aston. Another great nationals – three golds in a row?

Southern peewees were very strong last year, they got silver. Five very strong skaters moved up. This year they split their games against Canterbury but missed out on silver by goal difference. Auckland must have been very impressive, they’re doing good things up there at that level.

I suspect Southern will again be very strong in one or two years in U16s as that same bubble gets to the older end of the group. At least two of them have made NZ U16s despite only turning 13 this year.

Midgets face the same problem. Bunch of very strong kids who won gold the last two years moved up to Juniors (hence they helped winning there). We should have great U19 teams for the next two years or so.

I believe long term it might need surgery, though no doubt at some stage he’ll pop on and give us some details. He’s a great player so hopefully he gets a full ice hockey career.

    Full results from the weekend:

Peewees: Auckland 1st, Canterbury 2nd, Southern 3rd (on goal difference, Auckland cleaned up this age group).
    Midgets: Canterbury 1st, Auckland 2nd, Southern 3rd.
    Juniors: Southern 1st, Auckland 2nd, Canterbury 3rd.

Site doesn’t have individual player etc awards up yet.

Superfly team is largely John McGlashan A, plus a couple of extras I believe.

Games start this Tuesday/Wednesday. Well done to Pete Lamb for his work and getting four teams in both grades, plus other people asking to be added to a waiting list.

They’re still the official names. I tend to try not to use them, particularly when talking to people who don’t know the system. Parents, new hockey kids etc, U13/U16/U19 is easy to understand.

They don’t relate internationally, and having the ages there makes more sense.

Canterbury rep jackets have years of representation in them, and they use U16 2008, rather than ‘midgets’.

Southern U13 lost to Auckland 9-1. 0-0 end of 1st. 2-1 end of 2nd. 7 unanswered goals in the 3rd.

Southern U16 lost 7-1 to Auckland in 2nd game.

Auckland U19 tied with Canterbury 3-3. That must have been a game.

And if you feel like posting results on the fly peter that would be great. They’ve got the U13 game which finished about 9am, but nothing from the U16 game which finished a couple of hours ago.

As an additional incentive for anyone who hasn’t signed up yet (first games start next Tuesday), the club last night agreed to reduce membership for the rest of the season to $20.

So people who aren’t club members can sign up for the 7 games, plus membership, for $104. I think Pete is putting the teams together this Friday, so get forms etc to him asap.
