MemberThat’s a pretty professionally done video.
That hit at 1.39 is probably a clip though. Getting a bit low.

MemberHow very Michael Jones of Justin.

MemberWho was in goal for that pile of fun? Pretty good effort to stop 24 shots, that many of them short handed.

And No, I didn’t want to take you to bed!
[/quote:22ad0cun]This is the reason I stay well away from “your mother” comments.
Sooner or later their mother is going to turn up and you’re going to have to explain yourself.

I’m not sure if it’s ’cause Jens is all european and whatnot, but the Thunder just will not hit. Time and time again I saw thunder players back away from a perfectly legitimate hit, while the stampede went for every hit they could scrounge – legal or otherwise.
[/quote:2m5ra8ym]I thought that as well. There were several times where I wondered why the player didn’t finish the check. Noticeable that Stampede took those opportunities to do so.

MemberClay Caird. Played for the team last season but got injured and didn’t get to play much of the season.

MemberGood game, Thunder played well. Sweet to see Tom score a nice goal. If Thunder can get it just up one more notch, tomorrow could be a hum dinger.
Horrendous crowd numbers. C’mon, everyone bring a friend along at 4pm tomorrow, I think Stampede supporters outnumbered Thunder supporters.

MemberNo one has ever asked the club to find someone to do music. I’ll see what I can do.

[/quote:2381yn2r]That’s not true Aaron. Michael arranges volunteers for every Thunder game. The peewee manager rounds up people to help with pre-sold tickets and giveaways.

MemberI don’t! Pay me to market NZIHL games and I’ll share

MemberYes but there are costs to the venue of holding an event – staff, security, cleaning, consumables, damage. Eden Park doesn’t hire out the rugby field in the middle for a couple of hundred bucks and then the All Blacks pocket all of ticket sales. The venue gets a cut.

Why would it be different for IB’s vs Aus. Plus that game would be an awesome way to get kids caring about competing for an IB’s spot in the future. Can’t put a price on that.
[/quote:1j7qd6rc]Because (at least in the instance of the upcoming NZ/Aus tests), the rink is taking care of the marketing etc costs.
Unlike a team practice, the ice isn’t the only thing they’re providing.

Membercomps = complimentaries. Media, sponsors, volunteers. Players often get a couple of tickets to give to family/friends.
Stampede tickets are more than ours – $20 for adults. Ours are $10 for adults, $5 for children. NZ-Australia isn’t exactly top tier ice hockey, $30 is a lot to charge someone who knows nothing about ice hockey and thinks they’ll take their family along to try it out.
But whatever ticket price you charge, you won’t get all of it to fund the teams. The rink will keep a significant portion of the money wherever you hold it.
So if we had a double header and kept $10 (if tickets were $30/adult, $15/child, the rink kept half of all sales) on average from each ticket to fund both teams, in order to break even on a $15,000 cost you’d need to sell 750 tickets a game. Probably 800 spectators in the building.
I don’t know if either of the Auckland rinks can hold that many, but Queenstown and Christchurch can’t.
We broke that number for world champs for the last game against Ireland, but that was on the basis of a week of news stories in the paper every day, TV coverage, and a lot of people that travelled here from around New Zealand for the whole week.
