MemberThe rink doesn’t count them that I know of, it only does a till total, which doesn’t count people.
And doesn’t include the comps. But the game last year where we were opposite the ABs game in Dunedin there would have been less than 75 people there.

$15,000 * 2 games = $30,000 total
[/quote:35f89rjh]1. I doubt you’d sell well at $30/game.
2. That’s a full price ticket. Half your audience wouldn’t pay that.
3. I meant 500 over the whole weekend. Neither Queenstown or christchurch seat very many. Once you’ve given away your comps for media, volunteers etc, you might sell 250/night and be full.Kyle
MemberCosts over $10,000 to take a team over the tasman for a few days. Plus you have to bring the New Zealand players all together.
You have to sell a hell of a lot of tickets to recover that cost, plus all the other costs of hosting games.
Not many rinks could hold enough people to sell that many tickets. Queenstown and Christchurch would be too small, you couldn’t seat more than 500 people in them.
Kyle
MemberThere were about 600 for the first Thunder game. They’ve tended to all be less than 300 since, on a bad night it doesn’t get much over 100.
Kyle
MemberYup. Though I had help from some players the first time. The second was all me.
I’ll see if I can cut it down to one fall this Saturday.
Kyle
MemberI understand it was the team list sent out to all the players a day or two ago.
But yes, that is an accurate team. CRD team and players rewarded by picking up a goalie spot and Paris Heyd making the team.
It’ll be interesting to see how they deal with three goalies in two games.

The other teams would have picked up what the refs were doing.
[/quote:382xm3w1]Y’know, Thunder have played under Paul several times now – last year and this year. I’d put good odds that next time they play under him they’ll end up on the wrong side of the penalty count.
Yes, you would think that teams would pick up on what referees were doing, but that’s up to the teams surely?
"Azzy77":382xm3w1 wrote:Anyway the Canterbury refs teach all other refs in South Island so shouldn’t there be some level of sameness with them and their protege?
[/quote:382xm3w1]Aaron, you had most of the same training that I did from Jerome (I had a bit more from doing a national league game). Do you referee a game like Jerome? Do I? I think you’re overstating the influence of the mentors, most of our refereeing we try and muddle through ourselves, sometimes we’re lucky enough to get suggestions from upstairs.

[/quote:22dnkqf7]The problem is that half a dozen people, all experienced players, referees, will come to different conclusions than you.
You’ve tagged Jerome, but it’s no secret if you ask around Thunder then they’ll say Jerome is OK and Paul isn’t. Yet if you talk to Southern Peewees from last year, you might hear about Ryan and the calls he made in a game.
People playing in a game, and their supporters are the worst judge of referees. Not that they can’t, but they’re invested in the game and their perspective of it. I’m fully in favour of referees getting feedback on their performance to try and get better, but you wouldn’t turn to the players or a coach, you’d turn to a referee who watched you.

[/quote:18tzpemi]It’s not a matter of right. I’m sure the National League would use neutral referees if it could. It’s just not possible practically as only Auckland and Christchurch have national league referees. So only some games can be done neutrally at present. They’d have to bring referees in from Australia to cover the rest.
Which if teams wanted to pay for it might be possible, but it’d be something like $5 – 800 each weekend.
Christchurch carry a heavy load in terms of supporting national league games. They referee all the games in Christchurch, Dunedin and Queenstown.

MemberI haven’t seen Thunder since the Canterbury games (I was away when they played Admirals), so I’m looking forward to a big improvement from the team after the break.
Stampede certainly sound like they’re determined to play in the final again, for Thunder to be close they’ll again be relying on Parry to carry a big load. I think Stampede will win both games but Thunder will keep the score down.
