MemberStory in today’s Press about Chris Eaden:
Kyle
MemberNot according to the NZIHF last time we checked.
The short answer to ‘what happens’ is ‘most likely nothing’, at least for us. Other associations that are more prominent overseas might get come down on hard for not following the rulebook.
There could be a risk of liability. Players ACC coverage and our insurance is partially based upon us following an international rule set. There’s a small chance that the association or the rink could end up in trouble down that path.

MemberI’d struggle to think of any contact sport where women play against men. My disagreement isn’t so much to do with mixed contact, but that women aren’t allowed to play contact against each other. But then, that doesn’t really involve me at all so I don’t get up in arms about it.

MemberI’m very good at aiming for the middle of the goalie’s chest, but that’s not really a tip

MemberI don’t have a video. But I have two tips. No, three tips.
1. If the puck is on your backhand, and you’re anywhere vaguely close to the net, shoot it on your backhand. I see so many young and new players always trying to get it on their forehand and losing the puck in the process. A good backhand is an asset, not a weakness to be avoided.
2. Don’t screw around with the puck. In particular, unless you’re a D playing at the top level, don’t wind up for a big slap shot. Gives the goalie time to set and the other team plenty of time to block. I see a heap of players taking two seconds to get a shot away and the opportunity is gone. If you can draw the pass in straight to your wrist shot wind up, and let it go immediately. If you take half a second to get your shot away, the other team won’t be as ready for it.
3. One timers are actually quite hard, and require great timing from you and your passer, and great technique to hit it right and get it accurate. Practice them a few hundred times before you try them in a game. Stick with your wrist shot, you’re most likely much more accurate and faster with it.

MemberPete Lamb is probably going to organise it. It will be a split A/B grade DIHL. Anyone who wants to be involved should contact him.

[/quote:7zsxw3bz]But you can’t change the competition format halfway through the year, all this stuff has been set months ago, ice, transport, accommodation etc booked. You’d have to change it for next year and future years. Which means considering all the possible options, which include a north/south final.
Kyle
MemberFinancially not viable. It’s great to say that just because it could be two south island teams in the final, it could be done. But it’s just as likely to be a south and a north island team. Which would mean paying for flights on more than one weekend.
Plus the third game might be a dead rubber. Which isn’t a problem if the players are all there anyway, but foolish if you’ve paid several thousand dollars to get the visiting team there for that game.
I’d suggest that the finals should be a triple-header, with a possibility of not playing the third game. Top team hosts it, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Ice should be booked for all three and also (where relevant) extra time booked to allow for the possibility of overtimes and penalty shootouts (as per IIHF rules) for each.
The additional cost would only be additional accommodation and ice time and officials, which ticket sales would cover (it’s the cost of flights that makes the league expensive).
I’m fully in favour of an outdoor NZIHL game at Tekapo. I’m not sure if anyone would want to lose their home game and ticket sales however. Maybe one year if there’s two south island teams not in the final they could play a ‘friendly’ couple of games the week before the final at Tekapo? Or pre-season?
Kyle
MemberI think Red Devils have been splitting their games all season, so quite likely they’ll do it again.
