[/quote:1g94sh2p]I think the rink keeps the local share of the gate takings. Helps cover their costs in supporting Thunder.

In case of any shortfalls, they are the one who have to front up the difference to the league. Don’t think the rink gets anything unless you have a special arrangement. If I recall, didn’t Neil buy a whole bunch of tickets last year as support?
[/quote:lk7752wt]DIHA recieves no gate takings, nor do we pay anything for Thunder – financially they’re completely separate. Thunder is a SIHL team, but it seems to operate relatively independently from SIHL as well. It’s different from the setup that the other teams have with their clubs. Auckland and Christchurch are more logically teams of their clubs.

[/quote:3d711jky]Probably not something that worries the owner of the Christchurch rink, his rink is busy through to midnight, and the ice sees a lot of use over the summer with the SNC competition.
Dunedin ice times are more flexible as things get pushed back if something runs over or starts late. Lots of rinks can’t/won’t do that. They run games on a strict and tight schedule and there’s no great benefit for their business in pushing it back 20 minutes so an ice hockey game can finish. They’ll lose income in the following event. NZIHL Rulebook allows for this where it happens.

MemberI presume start times are set by the rinks. It would be infinitely preferrable for all Saturday games to be earlier – 5pm or before, because they clash with a lot of home ABs tests.
Thunder previously negotiated a home game to be the Cadbury Cup, but Thunder wasn’t able to be part of Cadbury chocolate week this year so that won’t be happening. It’s certainly possible to link games to events though.

MemberI’m away in Wellington with family this weekend, so will miss Thunder home games for the first time. Best of luck to the team hope I miss a couple of home wins!

MemberThat’s a lot of download for people not to know coming. You might want to make that something that people explicitly click on, as flickr has them through the slideshow rather than just popping up in the form each time they go to the topic.

MemberIt’s an IIHF rule.
If I was to get up in arms about a rule, I wouldn’t pick that one, I’d pick the fact that women can’t play contact against each other. Different rules for mixed sports isn’t unusual.
Kyle
MemberYou have to be eligible to play contact as per nzihf rules. Females aren’t allowed to play checking with seniors so only females able to play would be goalies.
(Females are allowed to play checking in midgets and junior games in New Zealand).

MemberPoll amended to make a bit more sense. I’m picking devils will win a couple of fairly close games.

MemberHey Peter, thanks for continuing to take these photos and posting them. Maybe we can also post game reports here? There’s some updates on the NZIHL web site with recent games here:

[/quote:28zi366w]I’d concur, from what I’ve seen over the past two seasons, Canterbury has the best forward line. Paris Heyd left Dunedin a few years ago an reasonably good junior and is one of the better forwards in the competition now. Someone’s been doing good things with him up there. Chris Eaden certainly looks like the leading forward in the competition. He’s a player with international prospects, which you couldn’t say about many NZ ice hockey players. They play together regularly and do so very well. They’ll cause problems for every team in the competition. Their other top line is pretty good too.
Last two seasons Canterbury have had the top three forwards in terms of point scoring both years in the end of year stats. This year they currently have the top two. While they’ve played a couple of the easier teams, they’ve played less games than anyone.
