MemberI’m not sure if it’s a good plan to stick the Thunder Ireland game on the website. It breaches statute 301 of the IIHF bylaws:
301. International Games
Only member national associations or clubs with the permission of their member national association are authorized to organize or participate in international games, leagues or other competitions.
Clubs, teams, players and officials taking part in such games shall be subject to the applicable IIHF Statutes, Bylaws, Regulations and official playing rules.
For all international games the IIHF Official Rule Book shall apply and Official Game Sheets must be completed.
All international senior club team and national team games must be officiated by IIHF licensed Referees and linesmen. Both teams are probably going to be OK, but if one of the other teams at the world champs kicked up a fuss, there could be problems.

MemberNo you are totally off your rocker.
Games involving the national teams of IIHF countries requires sanctioning. There are numerous requirements, none of which the current Easton Cup would meet. They require internationally qualified referees, of which we have none in Dunedin, and only 3 or so in NZ.
And teams from this area require a tremendous amount of support. Mongolia couldn’t even make it to New Zealand, despiate having their travel paid for.
And Easton Cup is a non-checking tournament, the national teams of those countries would all play checking hockey.

MemberI’m in Dunedin and I knew about it. Not sure about putting it on the web site, it’s unsanctioned.

MemberNo luck there Andy, Ireland didnt’ look any more impressive against LUX. I’m picking they’ll be fighting with Turkey for bottom spot.
Turkey NZ tonight was a good game. Both teams took a bunch of penalties but NZ ran away with it in the second having pounded Turkey hard in the first.

MemberGreece looked strong. It’ll be interesting to see them play NZ. Everyone has been thinking that NZ Ireland was going to be the game, but it might be NZ Greece. Ireland looked pretty average.
NZ-Luxembourg was a good game. Close until early in the third when NZ got three quick goals, including one shorthanded.
Kyle
MemberAs far as I know it’s still the plan to have 2 games vs Aussie in August around the Pacific games.
Kyle
MemberDidn’t I just answer those three questions in my post?
1. Mongolia aren’t here.
2. The first two Mongolia games, vs Turkey (now today) and Greece (tomorrow).
3. They were unable to get visas and are still in Asia.Kyle
MemberAnyone planning to come watch Mongolia play Turkey tomorrow at 1pm, or Mongolia play Greece on Saturday at 1pm can save themselves a trip. Mongolia have not got visas and are not here.
Those two games are cancelled. They’re holding off cancelling their remaining three games in the hope that they might be able to get their visas sorted out and get here.

Ah no sorry, I need that bit for my lunch so I’m just short.

MemberThey were unable to get funding to replace the wooden stands behind the scorebox. I presume the temporary stand on top of the curling rink is still a goer though.

I mean Vince, c’mon. 242 posts? Are you some sort of loser or something? Sheez.

MemberI’ve heard back from ‘upstairs’, and the promoter is certainly serious about trying to pull it off. Apparently he’s purchased ice making equipment, boards and glass. He brought the Crusty Demons here last year and did a big rodeo thing recently.
What level of team he’ll be able to get here if the national associations agree, who knows. There wouldn’t be many releases from pro contracts I’d imagine.
Anyway, it’s certainly not a joke, but whether or not it comes off…
