MemberKara, your DIHL from still has Spring 2007 on it. My work lives on!
Kyle
MemberThere’s no clickable link on that news item about the dihl to the event notice.
Who is twilight? It that’s Kara’s wordpress login?
Kyle
MemberUmm, Ryan is more up on event notices than me. But you should be able to put that it’s an ungraded league. Any teams that are submitted complete that are too strong, you can adjust.
Kyle
MemberHey Kara,
Slap shots. I would say ‘no’. You’ll have people out there without shorts and whatnot, and also it means newer goalies can be more confident about stepping in and facing top level players.
I found with the open grade, the goalie was such a strong factor. The difference between having a top goalie in your team, vs a kid who is a beginner is massive. Worth about three really good skaters.
I would say, depending on the goalie, every team should have 2 or 3 good players, 3 or 4 average ones, and 4 or 5 beginners. Then adjust that depending on how good the goalie is.

Spring 2006 we had a 7 week A grade, with four teams. Two rounds with a one week final. And we had a 7 week B grade with six teams. Single round robin with a semi-final and finals week. Those schedules have the finals team put in, you’d just have to replace them with 5th, 6th, 1st etc.
I’ll also attach (for interest) a 7 week draw with 8 teams. It uses two pools for the first three weeks, and then takes the top two teams from each pool, and puts them in a top grade, and the bottom two from each pool, and puts them in a bottom grade. Does another round-robin, and then 7th week is a final.
We also did a 9 week dihl in autumn 2006 with 8 teams, but I might have dumped that schedule. It was fairly straightforward thoguh.
Kyle
MemberI did. Or, sometimes I got a little distracted by the game. Icing, no icing, meh whatever.
Game was OK, all stars played well. Ice Blacks need more work I thought. They’ll be OK in April, but we all want them to stay up in the higher division which is going to be hard.
Was… 5-1? 4-1? Dane Dunlop scored the All Star goal off a nice feed from the point.
Kyle
MemberCheers Ryan,
The coaching one will also change, but we don’t know who to yet, so leave it with Larry for now.
Kyle
MemberThanks.

MemberIf you’re going to buy new, I wouldn’t recommend the rink. They’ve got a shockingly small amount of stock, and they’re expensive. Try http://www.sk8.co.nz if you’re going to buy from here in NZ. Particularly if you’re passing through Christchurch on your way here (which you probably are if you’re coming from England) stop in at their shop and buy there and save yourself the courier fee.
Kyle
MemberYeah, definitely what Chris said about gear. Maybe sticks would be a pain, but definitely bring your skates and any protective gear you can. Prices are very high here.
Kyle
MemberDIHL will be starting in May. There’s going to be very little opportunities for hockey in April due to the Division III world champs, and the world seniors curling grabbing all the ice.
There might be some slightly more organised hockey in March if someone (possibly me) gets organised.
