Yup. I presume they were short on quality NZIHL footage.

Heh. After all that, the 2008 video has the _old_ Dunedin Thunder logo.

There’s three goalies, you can only dress two for a game. I suspect the coaches are still figuring out what the best matchups are all over the ice, including goalies.

Heh. Weight transfer Jack. Back to front, not front to back.

Larry has copies of our stats. The second game was pretty wobbly statwise. I got an assist for Matt Newton’s goal, but Mark didn’t get an assist for his shot which rebounded off the goalie and which Zanzee put in however.

Beasts beat Southern Women… er 8 – 3 or so? And Southern women lost to Gore by a moderate amount.

Zanzee and Mallory both played four straight games, I think those two women are machines or something.

Man, you Beasts are such cheaters. 3 photos, 3 penalties!

Clearly the blackboard should have been emailed up as an attachment.

That’s the old schedule apparently. Maniototo has pulled out.

I don’t know what the new schedule is, apparently Larry N has sent it out, but I haven’t received it. But the Penguins first game is at 11, and then we’re backing up at 12.30.

I don’t know how the Beasts have changed, but I’d imagine you’re probably 11 and 2.

Cheers Mark, thanks for all the work you’ve done being a referee and keeping the games flowing. And for running the Beasts who have always been good fun to play against.

I understand you’re going to find games in Auckland interesting!

So if I take a shot and accidentally roof it, I get a penalty? I don’t recall seeing anyone get a penalty for that before. Isn’t it just a penalty if you do it intentionally? I thought the ref was supposed to hold a faceoff when that happens.
    [/quote:1lnq2s46]

Yes, you do get a penalty. It would make sense to me if the rule didn’t apply in the offensive zone, but it does. The referee will hold a faceoff when he doesn’t give a penalty. Where it’s a deflection, it’s gone out off the glass, it’s gone into the benches, it’s come off the goalie etc.

Just a note. I spoke to Bode tonight about this. She thinks the commentary radio is exciting, all good. Are you serious? If that’s the case then I won’t bother.
    [/quote:3482jdqa]

Yup I’m serious. I thought it might be a concern for her, that’s why I asked her. New team, lots of these players – particularly goalie – that no one has seen before. If any of the other teams posted video footage online, you’d bet she’d be looking at it to try and figure them out.

She is very keen for you to video it for coaching purposes though. She’ll probably want a wide view, from the stand at the end of the rink, rather than closeups.

Well guys, I’ve pulled some strings and I’ve got a transmitter, its not a full grade commmercial transmitter but it should do the trick, only puts out less than a watt. Put I’ve tested it at home and it goes through two walls all the way to the bottom of my garden by the street, so it should work fine at the rink

Does anyone have a real long USB extension cable that we can use for both night, the longer the better! just so we can mount it in a high place for the best coverage!

    [/quote:v8jgvswr]

I don’t have any long extension usb cords. I probably have half-a-dozen short ones about 1.5 metres or so each. I think if you link them up too much they might stop working though.

Ryan its actually listening to Aaron rant for 3 hours or so……if anyone has any ideas for intermission interviews I am willing to listen…. or if anyone wants to be interviewed at intermissions….

Well I’d definitely recommend stopping commentating during intermission. Ten minutes on “The history and technique of the Zamboni” might be a bit much. Besides, you’ll need a break and a drink. Just say we’ll be taking a break now and we will be back when the players are on the ice.

I would be happy (as would a couple of others I guess) to come and provide comments on the rules, if I’m not goal-judging. That’d probably be the sort of thing that you’d want to do as it happened, rather than “oh, five minutes ago….”

Steve Jackson would be worth talking to if he’s not doing anything on the bench with the team. Few decades of playing and coaching experience there, and I believe he’s done commentating before.
