And you’ll definitely need a co-commentator. You’ll sound like an idiot if you talk for a couple of hours straight, particularly since you’ll need to figure out all the names. Most TV commentary teams seem to have a play-by-play guy (“Wick to Christos, Christos around the net, avoids the hit, back to van Leeuwen on the D line, shoots, save, rebound, SCORE!”) and a bigger picture guy (“Thunder are running a great dump and chase game here, let’s watch the replay… er, just take my word for it. Putting the puck deep and making Stampede make passes out of their own end and picking them off.”).

I would need another person beside me to relay the info from walkie talkies from scorebox giving us official info…..
[/quote:g2xr2zro]I’d suggest either someone else does it, or you turn the commentating mic off.

MemberIf anyone has a decent camera with a heap of memory, I know Ryan would be keen to video the games and put them up on the web site, commentary or not.
His camera won’t do a full period, and then the download to the laptop takes too long for the period break.

MemberDoes anyone know anything about radio broadcasting?
I’ve been toying with the idea of broadcasting commentary over radio. I don’t know much about how this would work, but it’d be the same sort of system that they use to broadcast drive in movies. Anyone could bring a walkman radio, or a stereo into the rink and get live commentary.
If the games were videoed, then the radio commentary could be put back on top of the audio track.
If there’s any old style radio people who know about this sort of technology, let me know if I’m wasting brain cells thinking about it.

MemberDunedin peewees were up in Naseby this weekend. Beat Maniototo by a fair bit, and then Queenstown 8-3. It was a good tournament, Naseby was covered in snow, trip up was great.
They’re now 22-0-0 over the past two years. They’re in Alexandra this coming Saturday.

MemberStefan is still suffering from that slap shot that I put somewhere delicate on him last night. Like a sack of spuds groveling on the ice he was.
Bode’s coaching really does work. She was doing one-timers at practice the week before. I got all of that one

MemberAlso taken from the rink last night, and presumably not accidentally as it was in a player’s bag, was a cell phone. Thieves are unfortunately at work in our building.
This note is simply to remind all players of two things:
1. Don’t bring anything into the rink that you don’t have to, particularly money/wallets and cell phones. If you have to bring them in, bring them to the bench with you or get a coach, parent, friend etc to hold them for you. Don’t leave them in the changing rooms.
2. Name all your ice hockey gear in some way. We’ve previously had a player identify what he felt was stolen gear, that another person was wearing. Since they weren’t able to prove that it was their gear, we weren’t able to pursue it further. If it had been named somewhere, that would have made it real easy.
As a general note to any thieves if they’re reading this. The manager’s default reaction to a bunch of things is a two year ban from the entire rink. That includes all hockey, social skating, the stands to watch etc etc etc. That would be the minimum, he has muttered about life time bans to me a few times. That would be on top of a visit to the police station and possible appearance before the courts, long detailed conversations with parents etc.
Which might sound like hot air, but members of the ice hockey community have previously caught a thief who stole a player’s wallet. The thief was identified on the main street, photographed by cell phone, and the photo was passed around until a high school teacher identified them as a pupil and they were visited by the police.
The phone that was taken last night has been deactivated so hopefully it’s now a paperweight to the lovely individual who took it. Which makes the above penalties seem hardly worth it.

Kyle
MemberNo DIHL, but Graham is organising a pickup game.
Kyle
MemberHey. Bode is German!
11 days. Need to find something to make some really loud noise.
Kyle
MemberAnd a scooter. Which is probably in the rink lost property by now.

MemberRyan,
If you can bring them to my work tomorrow I’ll be there at that time tomorrow night, and I can swap them for the money and get it back to you.
Kyle
MemberNext two games are noon Thursday and noon Sunday our time. Thursday is on Sky 3, Sunday seems to have switched to Sky 2.
If the Penguins sort their hockey out and win a game, game 5 will be Tuesday next week our time.
Kyle
MemberNo you’re right. Either I’m blind, or that’s changed.
Maybe I mis-hovered.
