MemberAlso, while it looks like he didn’t get much time (no shots, penalties etc), James seems to have played 3rd D pairing. Someone must be injured or something, there were 7 D, only 6 on the scoresheet.
Kyle
MemberYeah, that’s not too bad.
Add the fact that the… U18s beat Aussie for the first time a few weeks ago, that’s good progress.
Shame they didn’t beat Mexico though, I guess they’re facing relegation again now?
Kyle
MemberI emailed Joyce and she sent me the timetable.
Kyle
MemberHi,
Open grade is this Sunday, here’s the timetable (in reverse order, because that’s how I roll):
13/4/2008 1230 SIHL Open Queenstown Dunedin
13/4/2008 1100 SIHL Open Alexandra Gore
13/4/2008 930 SIHL Open Gore Queenstown
13/4/2008 800 SIHL Open Dunedin AlexandraThese are junior/senior players playing checking hockey, there should be a bunch of thunder/stampede level players out there, so it’ll be good hockey to watch.
I’m also hoping to round up some goal judges. If anyone is planning to be at the games and can goal judge, please let me know.

MemberOh I think it would be great. But the investment that would need to go in, not just in terms of seating, but commentary for the half dozen TV stations and radio covering it, lighting, sound etc etc.
Though the NHL is big on starting the regular season overseas these days. Ducks and LA started in London, next season it’ll be… Ottawa and… I forget, in Sweden I think.
Kyle
MemberI think we’re about 10,000 seats short for an NHL game.
And the half an acre of tv, radio, lighting etc etc that they require.
Kyle
MemberPeewees beat Gore 22-3, and Queenstown 15-7. Both good games from the kids, they played really well.
Kyle
MemberNow I’m wondering if you made the George St Junior School ground date up completely.
Kyle
MemberI mean… in each of those things. Our changing rooms have been pretty crud until now for example.
Kyle
MemberI presume the stand on the curling rink is temporary, the stand behind the benches is probably the permanent one (with the changing rooms underneath).
Kyle
MemberJust to note, this is freaking insane.
If this goes ahead, we’re going to end up with the best facilities in… probably the southern hemisphere. Good sized permanent stand, new changing rooms, the entire entrance end of the building is going to be redone, we’ve already got a great rink. Small cost of missing a couple of weeks of hockey and having to play in a building site for a year. Sweet. It’ll up our pull for getting more big events like IIHF world champs events, internationals, nzihl finals etc, and put our rink and our club on a big international stage. It’ll make the new Awatea St stadium only the second best sports facility in Dunedin

We’re also hopefully going to get to see some world class speed and figure skating.
Kyle
MemberAnother game misconduct last night for fighting I understand.
Seriously people, this isn’t the Stanley Cup final, this is DIHL B grade. Keep the boxing off the ice.
Turning up to a disciplinary hearing near you.
Kyle
MemberIt looks like they’ll melt the curling rink and put seats on it. If that’s the case, shouldn’t affect our hockey too much, except for the fact that we won’t be playing at all during that couple of weeks that the games are on.
I wasn’t aware that the bit out in front was planned for this year – I’ve always got the impression that it was a longer term plan. Maybe this has pushed it along? Graham?
Kyle
MemberThe women lost to Iceland 5-1 Iceland goalie made 36/37 saves, NZ made 11/16.
They had a similar game to that last year against… Estonia I think? just couldn’t get the puck in the back of the net.
Kyle
MemberYeah, it’s my understanding that Queenstown will get the hockey, which is a shame, but not too far to travel. Wonder how much the tickets would be.
