MemberI didn’t tend to have problems booking ice time myself, I just ran it past Joyce first.
Kyle
MemberFor ice time you need to actually see Neil write it in the book. We’ve always had problems before with faxes, emails etc, and then you turn up and they’ve moved us around and never told us.
As for when to start, I don’t know when the high schools competition finishes, but I wouldn’t start anything until after that. That’s probably mid-August. Then there’s the SI high schools, and two weekends of nationals, so first Tuesday and Wednesday in September is when I would think about starting. Maybe a week later. Depends how many weeks you’re aiming for, you want to avoid going into November because uni students start to leave.
And high school holidays. I’ve always put no games on during those times.

MemberI can’t imagine they’d charge us to register a game. The NZIHA never did this – it was just part of the service they provided to clubs. If there was a charge then it would encourage clubs not to register games, which is precisely what they don’t want to happen.
The reason to register the game is that then penalties from the game can carry over to other associations. So if a player from Chch comes down here and is a complete goon, and we apply a ban, that ban follows them back to Christchurch. You could also hope that the NZIHF would get more respect for Dunedin and what we do, if they knew more of what we did – and registering our games with them is one way to do that.
Having complained about a non-eligible player playing in the Easton Cup, because we didn’t go through the NZIHF and use the process they’ve apparently set up, it would seem bizarre for us to now diss the system that we ignored last time, when we still don’t know exactly how it works, and when the same system has just given us the information of three banned players, one of whom was going to come.
It would make more sense to find out the answers to our questions, and if it doesn’t cost us anything, then there’s no loss in registering the game. After all, Jerome has recommended it to us, and he’s been helpful so far.

MemberI was wondering about these things as well. It’d be tricky to find a place where the public could see it, but you could still make it safe to shoot pucks at a net – you’d need a big wall behind it or netting, and no windows. The only places in town I could think of like that are down alleyways and no good at all for getting people watching.
I know skating is banned on George Street, so we probably should talk to the DCC before we go putting skates on. But if that doesn’t work, we could put all the gear on and go in shoes handing out leaflets. Worth doing for a lunch time either way.
Schools is really what we should be targetting. Standing outside high schools and intermediate schools when they finish in gear and handing out leaflets – that’d drag them in, and wearing skates wouldn’t be banned around high schools.
Who’s responsible for the advertising for Cadbury Cup. Deanna has done it previously – is she in charge this time?
Kyle
MemberThat’s no good. Cadbury Cup is an opportunity for us to promote our sport to a big crowd and see the prems play a good game of hockey and show off their talents. Mark Hareb and I were talking about we should promote an ‘open day’ for beginners there – give everyone a leaflet for a cheap beginners session.
Last thing we want is someone coming down who’s just going to play like a thug, that’ll turn people off if anyone starts doing stupid stuff on the ice like he was doing in the Easton Cup.
Kyle
MemberJust to prove that our club did have a player at the IIHF Division 3 Champs… kinda:
Kyle
MemberYeah, something like that.

MemberWhere you say:
DIHL B-grade follows section 6.3 Rules: Non-checking, No Slap-Shots:
DIHL B-grade follows section 6.4 Rules: Non-checkingthe second one should be A grade
I’d move the documents to the side or down the bottom. From an advertising point of view, you want the stuff about what it is and when it’s happening first.
Maybe you could add a hotlinks box over on the right with that stuff for when it’s actually needed for an upcoming dihl?

MemberI saw a bunch of these kids play tonight. There’s some really good kids from elsewhere in the region – one went from his own blue line, showed up a bunch of midgets for stick handling _and_ pace, and then scored. There were also a bunch that were really committed on defence – chasing and diving after breakaways, going down and blocking shots. The house league game which included some out-of-towners was really close, 5-4 with a late go ahead goal with ten seconds left from a player who’d just come out of the box ten seconds earlier.
It’d be well worth turning up at 11:30 tomorrow morning and watching Dunedin-Queenstown, should be a great game. And the Dunedin Juniors are playing at 10 so get down there earlier and catch the double header. Juniors are pretty physical so if they stay on the legal side of things, should be good games.

MemberI point up the page to vpatrol’s comments on ownership. The NHL contracts out the broadcast rights to one or more media networks – probably several, one in each region. The reason we used to get NHL here is because Sky picks up ESPN and ESPN had the rights. In order for us to get NHL therefore, Sky would need to pick up whatever network was carrying it. Can’t see that happening.
Sky certainly wouldn’t buy the rights independently, even if they were available for this region. Sky’s interested in how many additional subscriptions they’re going to get out of picking up an event. NHL would only get them a few hundred at the most, and it would cost way more than that income to get the rights.

[/quote:21ropvtm]Sounds like I need to earn a lot more money. The plan is fine, unless you want to start downloading 2 and a half long videos a couple of times a week.
Kyle
MemberAll the games here are 8:30, 10:00, 11:30, 4:30 for these double-headers. Has been so all season. Dunno why the sihl schedule was never updated.
Kyle
MemberSky used to have a couple of games a week live, and then more once you got into postseason.
Personally I downloaded the 5 Stanley Cup finals games and that was my broadband for the month blown.
Make more sense for someone to maintain a library and people to burn games to DVD if anyone else wants them. Silly to have two people in Dunedin both downloading the same two games.
