MemberI have a concern (I can hear Ryan groan already).
I don’t think the discussion in the ‘new Dunedin name’ topic is really something we want to link to. At least, not the way it’s gone tonight. If a couple of committee members, who attend meetings regularly have a completely different idea than other people about what’s going on…
I’m as cynical as most about committee meetings and what goes on there, but I’m not sure there’s much use in putting out an email to all club members saying we’re seeking your opinion on this positive exercise in branding which is going to be good for the club, and then linking to a discussion where a couple of members of the committee are disputing whether the whole exercise is necessary.
I thought the committee agreed to go ahead with the branding and seek opinions. Why are people dissenting now? Were they at the meeting? Was it not clear what was decided?
I’m also concerned that some good work that some people have done is getting really mangled now it’s hit the committee!

Memberby explicit, I meant there should be a line in the email saying ‘here are some images that show what new tops could like like’ with a link to the image.
James had trouble finding the images and he looked all around the forums. It needs to be a direct link if we’re going to make it likely for everyone to be able to see it.

MemberThe other thing is, it’ll have to switch back to Saturday at some point in the future, as Sunday is going to be swallowed up by organised hockey again – once the DIHL starts again, or something else. There are simply no other nights available for organised hockey when high schools is on.
Saturday night is available most nights throughout the year, and it might be better not to keep swapping it back and forth between the two.

[/quote:19c5s854]I would imagine in some instances they would be integral, but in others, they wouldn’t. You can certainly retain a brand, but change colours. We wouldn’t want to do that, but it proves that colours aren’t necessarily integral.
I agree that jumping straight on the name, like Graham said isn’t the best way to do things (see my original post on this topic some time ago), but I suspect we’ve moved along, and not having been to the committee meetings we can’t really complain too much

MemberWhere it says ’email us’ who is us? What address should it be sent back to? Who’s compiling these email responses into something sensible?
Ryan Wick did some good layouts of tops. They should be mentioned explicitly I think – those lists of three colours don’t really have much meaning, but the images do.
It really needs a deadline for feedback. It says the decision will be made in the next two weeks, but we really should have a date whereby people need to get back to the association for their opinion to be considered.

MemberIf you’re restarting it remember that you need a game official. The club decided earlier this year that there should always be a coach or referee at all sessions, to ensure that people have safe gear (they don’t need to necessarily referee any resulting game, but they have the authority to order people off the ice).
Kyle
MemberNo it’s not on at present.
It got cancelled once the DIHL got going, and someone would need to front up and make it happen for it to start again.
Kyle
MemberI don’t believe so.
There’s space for this to happen on the weekend, but someone would need to take the responsibility for organising it.
Kyle
MemberHe’s also a something or other dan black belt in karate.
I’ve never seen anyone get pushy with him on the ice hockey rink, but I’m not sure I’d recommend it, no matter what masters age grade he is.

[/quote:3mhwy1b3]Not if we want it to be open for NZIHL teams. Surely one of the things that we should do with anything we come up with is take it to the NZIHL and say ‘would this be ok for a future team?’. There’s no point taking tops that clash with one of the four existing teams. They’ll just say no. I can’t imagine any of the NZIHL teams have alternative tops, because they only play three other teams. They’ve arranged the colours so they don’t need alternative tops.
The same thing goes for SIHL teams. Most players are only going to own one top, the primary top. The club might have a couple of sets of alternative tops, but we don’t want to bring them out every time we play Gore. We want to only bring them out when we have a visiting team or we’re on tour or something.

[/quote:r1wrgm5a]Oooh, almost perfect pick on the score, except for that damn empty net goal my team scored. 4-2 to Bullfrogs. Kemp gets three, Gilchrist gets the first one for the Frogs. James Van Leeuwen knocks up four assists, but then again, he never left the ice, so fair enough. Smith and Parr net for Sharks. Had to guilt my team into winning as an early birthday present for me.
"Kyle":r1wrgm5a wrote:And the big final. Phantoms take on Johnnies OB. My pick – I’m picking it’ll be an overtime victory, 2-2 at the end of ordinary time, with it to go to golden goal, Phantoms to take it, manager King to get the winner.Actually, after in depth and careful consideration, I’m going to reverse that last one, pink laces or not! Just for Jono really.
Johnnies to get the game winner in overtime. I’m picking Mannerswood to get the game winning goal.
[/quote:r1wrgm5a]Damn, should have stuck with my original pick. 4-2 to Phantoms, with another empty net goal – to King. Christos gets another miracle goal on Schuck, shooting from behind the goal line and somehow finding an invisible hole in the pads. Joe Sales gets the game winner with a big point shot. Sinclair gets a double in the first period for Johnnies, but they just didn’t get enough offense – only eight shots all game, tough to win games like that.
Well that’s the end. All the excitement, thanks to the referees and the scorers and everyone else who helped out. Congratulations to the Phantoms, who are probably just leaving KFC as we speak. DIHL A grade champions for the second year in a row, the beginnings of a dynasty.
There’s no more DIHL hockey for now, but if someone gets off their butts and organises it, it’d be good if there were an A grade competition starting in July when the students get back. Anyone? Hopefully the DIHL will return in September – again, if someone steps up and organises it all.
Cheers everyone!

MemberI wasn’t at the meeting, but I would have thought that the time has passed for suggesting new names.
The list of colour schemes must be shorter than all those question marks. We’re only choosing between three or four right? We can cross all the NZIHL and SIHL colour schemes off the list to start with.
Kyle
MemberI presume you have tops on the list.
Also merchandising – caps, sweatshirts, bag (normal and hockey), bumper stickers.
If she wants to think in different shapes and media, then branded hockey sticks – I’ve seen a club do this once, it was kinda cool.
Car signage.
And mockups of newspaper adverts advertising Premiere/NZIHL games.

[/quote:1ybp9mlm]You guys have a switch? No wonder Bullfrogs haven’t done so well this season – no one told us there was a switch!
At least now I know what you’re all giggling about in the changing rooms. Checking each other out, looking for the switch.
Kyle
MemberSee, you made the fatal error of assuming my picks are based on close attention to the teams, where people are playing, the spelling of names and whatnot.
As compared to the reality, which is “making up some rubbish for everyone’s entertainment”. If I got half your D lineup right in names, then that’s probably about as good as my picks ever get
