You’ve gotta have some space for the adverts to run in too!!! Don’t recall any 15 minute breaks this season unless it has been for an injured player.
You obviously don’t watch much soccer/football, I don’t think that there would many players playing the entire game in the British Premier league if they had the same type of rules that hockey has to cover abuse of officials.
plod16Memberbring back the days when it was open to all South Island teams/clubs!! Would get more interest, there is nothing more frustrating than playing in it and not being allowed to win it!!
plod16Memberand today the Swarm have to be off the ice at 7:15 at the latest and on a plane at 8:20, not only ice time problems either!!!
plod16MemberI think that to make any comment on who is the likely finalist at the moment is flawed due to the season schedule. You would think that with a double round robin that all teams would play each once before starting the second round.
Having viewed more games than most people down south I suspect that the Swarm will only improve over the coming weeks. This will suit the Stampede more than the Devils as they have already completed their games against the Swarm.
We can discount both the Thunder and Admirals from the final scenario and focus on the other three remaining teams.
The Devils have a long grind ahead due to their schedule of games and having had their byes already. Injuries and sickness could play havoc later.
The Stampede will enjoy the break this weekend to let injuries/illnesses recover before travelling to Chch for the following round.
The Swarm have already played the Stampede and now have the motivation to beat the Devils in at 50% of their games to be in with a chance to make the finals. It could come down to goal difference and the final games against the lower teams.
The next two weekends in Chch will give a good indication on the which two teams will make the final.
I am also curious why some people make sweeping generalisations, for example, the reffing was mediocre but they fail to say why and for what reason they thought that.
plod16MemberThink that the next two rounds in Christchurch will sort the men from the boys and show who is REALLY likely to win the league. Devils will need to be on their game to beat the Swarm in their rink, they are not the easy beats from the first round in Auckland. Stampede Devils will be close fought thing with only one or two in it.Any of these 3 teams can/will win on the day and it will depend on who is in the right frame of mind.
plod16MemberApparently the Admirals had it in the bag at 6-2 but dropped their bundle with a couple to go.
plod16MemberThink that the other team had a goal waved away in similar circumstances, gaolies have been known to dislodge goals discretely! The only penalty that was called for dislodging a net was called because it was a blatant attempt by a Thunder player to stop play with the Stampede in a scoring position.
plod16MemberAnyone going to start a poll?? Parry has been standing on his head but needs the d to cut down the number of shots on him, or make it more difficult to walk in and take a good shot from the slot.
A reduction in penaltys will also help, and by that, I mean the ‘stupid’ ones! An example I saw in Queenstown over the weekend was a Thunder player dislodge the net on a delayed penalty call and they immediately go from 4-5 situation to 3-5 one. As I said just an example.
There were also positives there, holding the Stampede to only 1 in the second period shows that they are capable of playing periods without conceding goals. Think from memory it may have been conceded while they were on a power play, ” title=”Sad” />
It will be an interesting series.
plod16Memberbang and crash and hope for a suitable outcome is doomed to fail against a team that plays a system based game, the stampede will eat it up all night cos some thunder players over commit themselves to the check and this opens up possibly 5 on 4 or 5 on 3 situations and you can’t afford to do this in your d zone. Thunder need a better d system. I think kelf’s scores would be a realistic result.
plod16MemberWhen I saw the Stampede two weeks ago I thought that they had improved immensely since last year and thought that the games against the Swarm would provide a good indicator for the season. They certainly skated well and played a good system based game plan thoughout the entire game. It will be a hard ask in their own rink. Common problem again for the Thunder when they play against a team that has had it’s core for the last couple of years and then throw in some good young guys. They didn’t make the finals in the last couple of years but this could be their year!
plod16MemberIt is ironic that people continue to blame everyone except themselves when things don’t go their way, eg the refs etc. I have been lucky enough to be in a position to speak with a large number of our ‘elite’ players recently and apparently a lot of them haven’t bothered to read the rule book at all, let understand the application of it. If you are unhappy about the level of officiating, I would suggest that you attend some of the training sessions that are scheduled.
