I have emailed it to you. It’s called April Fools….
plod16MemberThere is no easy solution to this but you need to consider the following scenarios:
Defensive team not in position, which gives the attacking team a hell of an advantage! Potentially up to 5 on gk!!
Or the defending team has lined up but one player, coming slowly off the bench and still at the far blue line, gets a long stetch pass and has a one-on-one with the gk.
Both of these scenarios are avoidable AND blatantly unfair to either team and should not happen.
This leaves the only action left is to warn first the offending team and then penalise from then on.
plod16MemberThere was a large article on these games in the Christchurch Press today and it was equally vague about who were actually going to play here!
For those who can, check it out online.
They are still promising the sun and……
plod16MemberThought that this was going to fizzle out! Only one game apparently! Copied from a Ticketmaster email.

plod16MemberGood to see some new teams pop up!
A Timaru Boys High team is coming up to Chch in a couple to play against local HS teams. I think they are based out of Tekapo.
plod16MemberI thought that all of the peewees teams played some very good hockey over the weekend and often the score didn’t really reflect the quality of the game. Some had some great strength in key areas.
Possibly a prank gone REALLY wrong!
plod16MemberThink you might find that it was the other way around and that’s probably enough said about it.
I don’t think it is worth discussing while it is being investigated by those high up in the NZIHF.
plod16MemberSouthern won 9-1 over Auckland
plod16MemberSo far everyone has raised some good points re reffing. Good positive dialogue is important for all participants involved in hockey.
There is a huge amount of information out there for refs to study, its not just the rule book but the case book and OPM (official procedure manual).
You will get a copy of the OPM when aspiring refs complete the Level 1 course and test. This is an accredited IIHF official’s program and test. I think that there was a Level 1 course run in Dunedin last year and a Level 2 course in Auckland earlier this year.
Included in the OPM is an appraisal sheet for refs/linesmen. In Christchurch these are often completed by another ref for the Devils home games. Constant and frequent monitoring/mentoring of referees is very important to the growth of hockey in NZ.
The level of play has improved in the NZIHL but there are other areas, at a local level, that need addressing too.
Video analysis is a good idea but probably wouldn’t have to look at a whole game. You could pick several situations for training pruposes and show the refs. Video in conjunction with game assessments is the most effective method. Refs, just like players, have good games and bad.
plod16MemberMy point was that if compared with the criminal courts, then the suspensions would have been the other way around.
By playing hockey and any contact sport, you are allowing some one else to assault you, this is implied consent. When actions fall outside this, then other obvious courses of action are available to you and most commonly is by way of the disciplinary process. I think you would find that for the most serious cases, there is the possibility for criminal/civil process, just ask Jared McCracken or the guy McSorley injured.
plod16MemberYou can’t use previous offending in conjunction with a new charge, it goes against natural justice and the only result would be an unfair hearing.
Previous matters should be used to determine the suspension periods.
I think that Canterbury have a suspension schedule.
The DC process is inconsistent and needs to overhauled, preferably over the summer.
plod16MemberI think that you will find that it IS a round robin competition, every team plays each other once at and once on the road.
Also in the Rules/Regs it states that we are using the IIHF rulebook, which rules do you want enforced and not?
Consistency is always a problem, no matter where you are playing the game at the lower levels of the game. You have to reach a critical mass in players, coaches and refs before there is a more consistent application of the rules. Don’t get me wrong, it is not simply a refereeing issue but a player education process as well.
The suspension periods are decided on by the sitting committee. It should be noted that hitting someone with a stick is equivalent to assault with a weapon and that carries 5 years imprisonment, spitting is an assault, probably under the Crimes Act and carries 2 years imprisonment. Personally, it would appear the suspensions are around the wrong way!!!
plod16MemberAre the players in the NZIHL not playing for a championship? We all can play with the semantics all we llike, but from my understanding it will be implemented soon, as it probably should have been done from the start of the season.
What do you then recommend for those players who have already had one or two GMs already? Surely they should be held accountable for their own performance, just as those who have had a match penalty? Most of the GMs have been handed out for roughing (fighting = Match Penalty).
Just how do you make predetermined calls when the refs are the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff? Haven’t seen too many refs skating around with a crystal ball lately!!!
I think that the stats have shown the home team is often penalised more often the away team.
plod16MemberFound this subsection under Rule 505 in the IIHF rule book
2. In championships and tournament games, any player or team official assessed his second Game Misconduct Penalty shall be automatically suspended for his team?s next championship or tournament games.
Guess it will come down to how you define the following words: tournaments and championships!!
It appears that the NZIHL is both.
Wonder if it will then be applied for the NZIHL since we are using the IIHF book?
plod16MemberCopied from the IIHF rule book, page 40ish.
“If any unusual delay occurs within five minutes of the end of the first and
second period, the Referee may order the next regular intermission to be taken
immediately. When play resumes, the remaining time shall be played with the
teams defending the same goal as before the intermission, after which time
the teams change ends and resume playing the ensuing period without delay.” -
