Swarm won 8 6 over Admirals.
The real Stampede turned up to play tonight!
plod16MemberThink he has only just turned 18 but has to wear the cage all season!
There is a National rule somewhere which states that any player who turns 18 during that year should keep wearing it as causes too much confusion at games/tournaments.
Everyone has seen players who turn 18, come out with a visor and then have facial injury.
plod16MemberThere were two Match penalties assessed during last nights game, there is not enough detail on the score sheet to see why the MPs were assessed.
I am sure the Auckland reporters will be able to give some more information on the above penalties.
Prior to the current edition of the NZIHL Rules/Regs, the only local automatic suspension was if you were given a 10 minute misconduct, in the last 10 of the third period, you got ride the bleachers the following game.
If you turtle, you clearly shouldn’t be playing this game! Man the f@#k up and at least try to defend your manhood. Probably going to get a penalty anyway! They clearly did something to get the response! Each situation on its merits! Don’t really want to see roughing calls given to someone, when they can hardly punch their way out of a paper bag with their limp wrist!
Haven’t seen any public releases from the League hierarchy yet but I would imagine that it is coming very soon.
Defending yourself at the Disc Hearing is set out in the NZIHL Rules/Regs.
plod16MemberAs stated above, if you are assessed a 5+GM for any offence, you are out for the remainder of that game and you are now automatically suspended for the following game.
Defending yourself was never a defence!! All the players who have traded punches have generally been assessed the same penalties.
The ref has a number of options available (starting with minors, minors + misconduct, major AND GM or Match penalty) and I suspect that if they (refs) applied the rule the way the book is written there would have been almost as many Match Penalties called as the current number GMs. Refer to IIHF Rule 528.
Currently, what is sent to the Disc Hearing are only Match Penalties or a Game Misconduct which carries an automatic suspension, and off the top of my head, I can’t think of too many.
The current NZIHL Rules/Regs covering what requires a Disc Hearing are not well written and I would expect that there will some lively debate over changing the wording soon. Since publishing the penalty stats and the game in Auckland last night has really bought this issue out into the open.
plod16MemberSome penalty stats for the first round of games. Good to see the Thunder would get the ‘Fair Play’ Trophy if it was awarded now!!!
All bar one of the 5+GMs are for roughing. A dramatic increase in this has occurred this year.
2MIN 5MIN MISC GM Misc
BSW 78 3 6 3
CRD 86 0 5 0
DNT 46 3 0 3
STP 57 10 2 10
WAA 54 7 1 7HOME 163 14 7 14
AWAY 157 9 4 9TOTAL 320
GAMES 20Am sure some believe that they have been on the wrong end of the penalty count but generally, the home team is penalised more.
plod16MemberAll of them will play except for the injured ones.
I would imagine that to be suspended there have to be Match Penalties, cos the 5+GM don’t carry auto suspensions. There are no Match Penalties listed on any score sheet.
plod16MemberThe score sheet doesn’t reflect the 29 shot claim! But there are a number or errors on it in relation to the keepers stats.
According to the score sheet, there were a total of 47 shots for the entire game including OT, DNT keepers aren’t shown as minding the pipes for the OT period, does show change of keepers but does not put the shots on/saves in the correct column for GKB1 and GKB2, time played by GKB1 does not match the time of his change.
But then my scan is not that easily read.
plod16MemberSwarm win the game winning shootout!
plod16MemberSwarm lead Thunder 4-2 at the end of the first. Just a couple of minors each way.
plod16MemberAdmirals beat Stampede 7 -1, spanked in most areas of the game.
Stampede had 55 minutes of penalties including a misconduct, 5+GM for roughing (35 min) to Admirals 18.
plod16MemberThe centre line off side (two line pass) got removed from the IIHF rule book in or around ’98 to open the game up.
plod16MemberMight as well throw out that 06-10 rule book 13, cos we are now using the 10-14 one!!
Think that you might find that almost all penalties in the last couple of editions of the rule book have carried major plus GM in them. The last change to the major+GM was when they made charging, clipping, hooking and tripping come in line with all the other penalties that have the 5+GM, prior to that edition, you could only give a major for those four penalties.
Maybe your rule book still has centre line offside (two line pass) in it!!
plod16MemberBert is listed on all the other score sheets as playing in number 2.
The stats people will need to be careful and align any penaltys that he gets/got while wearing #20 to the correct person. Don’t think that Steven Reid wants ALL those penalties against his name!
Be interested to find out who made the decision to send him off.
plod16MemberThe automatic game suspension for getting a misconduct in last 10 was removed from the NZIHL Rules and Regs this year. GONE!!!
He got a 5+GM for roughing at the 4:57 in the third period of the game on the 26th.
He is listed in score sheet for both games with different numbers, a typo possibly or did he have blood on his jersey?
Maybe he just felt guilty?
plod16MemberScore sheet says that two players were assessed with roughing 5+game misconducts. The only other option above that is, is to assess them with Match Penalties, then there would be automatic suspensions.
A written reports (as per Rules and Regulations) has to be sent to the local convenor within 2 hours of the game’s conclusion.
I would imagine the higher beings would only intravene and have a hearing should the players reappear on the reports week in and out.
The Aussie league has a condensed score sheet available on their website.
