Well guys, I’ve pulled some strings and I’ve got a transmitter, its not a full grade commmercial transmitter but it should do the trick, only puts out less than a watt. Put I’ve tested it at home and it goes through two walls all the way to the bottom of my garden by the street, so it should work fine at the rink
Does anyone have a real long USB extension cable that we can use for both night, the longer the better! just so we can mount it in a high place for the best coverage!
Rhys MMemberWhoops, sorry computer program. We can use my comuter if need be
Rhys MMemberActually, it was one of those I was looking at getting, I think it could to the trick, im sorting it out afterschool today with someone I know who has one, remember we can always mount it up higher if we need to to improve coverage.
What would be the most suitbale computer to use for the commentray Ryan? Can you sort something?
Rhys MMemberOk guys, I’ve just recieved word that yes i can get some gear ” title=”Grin” />, provided its available for the weekend! Now I dont know if we’re gonna have to pay for it or not yet.
I’ll try for the sponsored/donated approach first which should work as I’ve just hired $1300 of gear of this person. But if we cant get it sponsored for one reason or another would be prepared to pay for it as a one of just for these games untill I can sort something more permanent?
Aaron- your probably the man in the know over things like this? What do you think?
Rhys MMemberJust in case anyones interested, these are some guidelines I’ve noted that we’d need to stick to, but i’ll make sure we’re well within those guidelines!
Without limiting the provision, the 25km rule applies as follows:
within 25km of any low power FM transmitter, there may be no more than one other low power FM transmitter; and
within 25km of a spectrum/radio licence transmitter, there may be no more than one low power FM transmitter;broadcasting substantially the same programme.
“Low Power FM transmitter operators, at least once every three hours, must broadcast the contact details of the person responsible for the transmissions.”
This requirement could be met by a spoken announcement of the name by which the station is identified, or the name of the person responsible for the establishment and operation of the transmitter, where that name is the subject of a current telephone directory listing.
If there is no telephone directory listing, the requirement could be met by including one of the following in the announcement:
a business telephone number
a business address
a residential telephone number
a residential address
a valid e-mail address
a postal addressBut i’ll sort all that out, but its jsut a bit of a guideline of and as to what hoops, im gonna have to jump through to arrange this for the weekend ” title=”Smiley” />
I’ll see what I can do though!
Rhys MMemberyeah im looking at some options for hookups, our work gear is out for the weekend ” title=”Sad” />
But im using some of my contacts in the “broadcasting industry” to see what I can source for the weekend ” title=”Smiley” />
So hopefully we will have something and Aaron might be able to make a entrance to the real world of radio broadcasting. Im seeing what I can do with the gear, but will definately have something for the next round anyway, becasue I’ll have longer notice to jack something up.
But seriously if we can pull it off with the gear and stuff its gonna be pretty awesome ! ” title=”Smiley” />

I would need another person beside me to relay the info from walkie talkies from scorebox giving us official info…..
[/quote:2wa542gy]I’d suggest either someone else does it, or you turn the commentating mic off.
In fact Aaron, I’ve even got a earpeice for the radio, so you dont need a a extra “helper monkey”
Rhys MMemberYeah I reckon it’d be good. Me and wick have got some extra radios from my work for things like communicating between people for scores etc ” title=”Grin” />
Rhys MMemberOh for sure, I can think of small stations in the past that have done that with their PEP power has been increased by more than 4 times! the licence that I would have to use for my gear that can do the broadcast, is a stsp (short term special purpose) and its generally inspocted by a RSM or MED person, just becasue it can pump out more than five watts, nut also has the abilitys to do a lot of damage on a lot of big radio stations. Also becasue we can have cross channel splatter etc occuring. I also have to make sure all my Is and Ts are crossed, its not a good look for a professional person to get caught out!
but you have to remember that a high power output is no use if you’ve got a poor arieal system anywayy
But anyway thats beyond the point, I have all that sorted, 5 watts is what we’re allowed to use and we dont even need to go that high, I would imagine a watt at the most mounted anywhere will cover the whole rink area quite happily.
Rhys MMemberThe 5w i was reffering to is the max power were allowed. if we start exceeding that is when we get above that is when bills from the radio inspector arrive. One of my jobs is a broadcast technician for the radio network, telecom amnd the like, so Im sure i can put something together to suit the club
Rhys MMemberyeah for sure, im available any time for a yarn. Its not hard to do, if we can work stuff out i can source the gear and some helpers just to ensure it all runs smoothly
Rhys MMemberWhoops, by the just for those non technical people out there PEP is peak envelope power, so thats the final output power of the transmitter, you oculd have 20watts going through the various amplifiers and stages but only 5 watts of transmission power coming out of the arieal is allowed
Rhys MMemberWell im not an old style radio person, but I can tell you about radio broadcasting. ” title=”Wink” />
Its an option that could be looked into I guess, i can accquire the gear. There’s a few issues surronding how we can broadcast
The PEP has to be no more the 5 watts, which is simple to do so it woould only be coverage within say a few km of the rink
The other issue is with the radio inspector, getting a frequency allocation which again isn’t hard to do and only other issues are technical such as modulation levels etc but I can sort that out
We do it for work all the time, its simple to do and probably not a bad idea ” title=”Grin” />
Rhys MMemberI’ve got acess to a projector and sky……….. I’ll tape it anyway to tommorow and anyone who wants to have alook it at feel free. Could arrange for a projector in the social room at a later date if anyones interested
Rhys MMemberI’ll back on that comment , hockeys a rough sport. If you dont like being pushed etc dont play. So excactly right, roughness is the nature of the game and if you dont like it dont play it
