you can’t blame Chara for rink design nor location of the hit. If the hit is legal on the other side of the ice, then its legal everywhere….the lateness notwithstanding. It was a freak accident. No malicious intent. Chara doesn’t need to be cheap to hurt someone.
vpatrolMemberskill level is higher if nhl players are present but they won’t be playing at a high intensity. Like an ECHL all star game with only 10 skater per side. NZIHL will have more intensity
vpatrolMembertheir advertising has gone from misleading to down right confusing. If its the Moose, which is Toronto based, are we getting any Americans playing? Do they expect a high tempo game with 10 skaters and 1 goalie? Hard hitting but no injuries? Promising a game the likes we have never seen is curious considering the pace will probably be pedestrian. 10 skaters over 60 minutes is impossible to sustain a high level. I imagine an NZIHL would be more exciting even if the skill level is lower. An NZIHL team has players who are actually playing to win to the best of their ability. They aren’t an ice version of the globetrotters.

One of the options they are looking at is the Allen Cup champions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allen_cup) which is the amateur champion in Canada. The Allen Cup champions sometimes tour other places as Team Canada endorsed by Hockey Canada. A lot of players who could have paid pros, but chose a different career.Paul, that’s exactly what the Canadian Moose do. There’s another similar organised based in New York. That’s largely what Douglas Webber have organised – a piss trip with a sideline in hockey.
[/quote:17uinwzc]From what I remember, the Allen Cup is the top “seniors” competition in canada. It regularly features ex nhlers and pros on its teams. Theoren Fleury played in it prior to his comeback attempt for instance (whilst sober). Essentially, if I’m right, they would wreck any of the other teams in the winter games. Correct me if I’m wrong.
vpatrolMemberso you won’t be the official announcer I guess. Shame.
vpatrolMember13-2 loss. Nz scored the last goal of the game.
vpatrolMemberNZ having a rough go with Serbia at the moment. 9-0 in the 2nd period.
vpatrolMemberlive streaming of the next game will be at noon. Just click on the link at the top of this thread. Select “stream” once the IIHF page loads up. Good luck boys
vpatrolMemberTPE grabbed a 3-2 lead halfway through the 3rd. Shaun Harrison tied it with 5 and a half minutes left. James Carr scored a PP goal just under 2 minutes later to regain the lead. Michael Attwell scored the insurance goal with under 2 minutes to go. Awesome comeback win. Michael Hopkinson stopped quite a few shots in this one.
Well done guys.
vpatrolMember2-1 lead after 2nd period vs Chinese Taipei
December 22, 2010 at 12:32 am in reply to: International invitational game between Canada and USA #16449vpatrolMemberonly referring to promoters claims of current NHL players born in either Canada or US playing for their respective countries on an invitational basis. Should that not eventuate, we have a don’t care option.
vpatrolMemberBad blood in the era of insurance and contractual obligation to nhl teams (assuming they haven’t lied about that as well)??? I’d be surprised if it was as serious as someone pulling out a glove from their lapel pocket and slapping another player with it.
vpatrolMemberI like how the most expensive corporate seats are located in spots where the least expensive seats usually reside. These guys must be hockey people through and through!
…maybe supporter sections have nothing to do with the teams on the ice. Perhaps they just want fans of those national federations because they are great fans who will support non affiliated teams?
vpatrolMemberprices? left/right? flex? curve?
vpatrolMemberi would pay to see ahl players play simply because its in NZ and I don’t have to pay for an airline ticket. However due to their dubious claims so far and questionable advertising, I will be waiting and seeing until the akl show takes place (if it actually does) and then get reports on who is there. I don’t trust the motives of someone saying they are trying to grow the game here yet they don’t consult with the national federation. They schedule games that would conflict with our national league. Our league is what is growing the game.
It would take some serious savvy as Azzy says to convince nhl players who aren’t planning on retiring to come and risk injury by playing here. I’m not sure the organisers have that savvy considering they didn’t previously approach the federations which would have given them access to their membership. The members are instant customers. When people want to hear about ice hockey in NZ, they check out the established sites, not Douglas Webber’s site. Just seems like silly mistakes.
