I think what chinstrap is getting at is that this isn’t a IIHF championship tourney. It’s a regular season and not a round robin format. Those rules were designed for international competition as opposed to a domestic competition.
Suspensions should be discretionary as chinstrap says. I would just like to see all refs on the same page as to the relative seriousness of the penalties. It would be good to eliminate complaints of “canterbury refs” or “auckland refs” making pre-determined calls.
