well China got smoked 15-2 by Australia.  Jaimee got 10 minutes of action and apparently made some good saves.  5 goals on 17 shots.  Pretty awesome effort actually and no injuries <img decoding=” title=”Smiley” />

they tried to strengthen eric lindros’ neck as part of his recovery.  Didn’t quite work out but his melon was too far gone.

if I punch a large adult in the head a very small adult in the head, who is more likely to be concussed?  Probably the one with a weaker neck.  Hence heavyweights don’t box lightweigts regardless of reach/height etc.

A goalie is less likely to get injured playing against bigger players then a forward or a defenceman but playing in a game of this stature where players will not give anything but their all, it is a real safety concern.  NZIHL doesn’t let 13 year old boy or girl goalies in the league for a reason (not saying Jaimee is 13).  Not much to do with skill but physical development and risks of playing with men at a high level.

Plus a goalie is not 100% protected.  If you don’t believe me, any doubters can suit up in goalie gear and have hassan or someone rip slapshots at you from 6 metres away.  No skating ability or goalie skill required.  You should not have any fear of getting hurt because you will have good equipment right?

A few weeks back, I trained with some touring professionals.  I have a top of the line chest protector and 25 years of experience.  I took a shot in the shoulder in a well protected spot and promptly had a shoulder injury due to the force.  I would hate to think what that shot would have done to someone much smaller.  Not to mention players skating through the crease, potentially colliding.  Crashing the crease as mentioned earlier.

have you ever been dinged off the head by a slapshot by an IB or had a 90kg forward tangled up with a 90kg defenceman crash into the net taking the goalie with you Kyle?  Jaimee is an excellent goalie however this is Div 2 mens hockey.  Azzy’s point is very valid.

although a nice idea in theory, it’s really up to the team to decide since it’s ultimately for them.  If they feel the benefit from the current one, not sure it they would mess with it.

nah, I got stampede taking it assuming they play the way they did against us.  The kid in the shiny new yellow helmet needs to outplay that tall ackward man across the ice too.

the whole point is to have a legitimate nzihl website that is always current, and can be used as a tool to market the league to fans and especially to sponsors.  Being a league run by volunteers, the website volunteers haven’t been up to standards for whatever reason.  Having a good unofficial one and a stink official one does the league no good whatsoever.
