Ok. I’ll take the win then. Cheers
vpatrolMemberNice. Should I mention that the only 2 games that I didn’t dress for all year were the ones against the Devils last year? Aaron and I made a decent team on Channel 9! And I took some mean stats with Mike Sam during the win.
vpatrolMemberyeah I played for Canberra. Never started though. Just a back up. Big surprise there.
vpatrolMemberI’m always replying so I can only blame myself!

I don’t know how the refs have gotten on since 2004 but my one year riding the pine in the aihl saw some pretty average refs. A few very good ones but some not so awesome refs too. That opinion might be skewed though because we had a few marginally dirty players who took many penalties.
vpatrolMemberI was pretty average to be honest. 36 shots for 4 goals. I’ll also be honest and say the 36 shots seemed a bit generous as far as stats. If you haven’t gathered though, I’m not too fussed on what others think of me in net. Only care about what my team thinks. Stampede are a quality team and can win on any given day. They’ve been that way since year 1. I just try and do my job and not be the reason my team loses. In a lot of games, my job has been to watch the game from the bench. I’m not embarrassed about that. I watched Zonka play a lot of games for Stampede. I watched a lot in a shirt and tie. I watched Jeff Mansfield start most games last year because he’s a better goalie than me. He’s played NCAA Div 1 and has been scouted by NHL scouts in the past. Me, I played highschool hockey in Canada in the mid 90’s. I’m not embarrassed of that either. I play when the coach wants me to play. What’s the big deal?
vpatrolMemberyeah that’s an issue. Convince the rink to melt the little rink and play inline there! I’m sure they would go for it.
vpatrolMemberRef was told that he was the devils best player. That’s implying cheating on behalf of ref favoring a team.

[/quote:1t906h1w]I have sources. Clearly though if you guys rate me as you do, the senior guys must think the same right? Unless you are a better judge of goalies then them. I should qualify the statement though, I’m sure some players couldn’t care less who is in net, its just not important enough for them. I’m flattered to get the attention though. I’m the most popular crap player in the history of the nzihl and I owe it all to the forum. Kudos.
vpatrolMemberI’ve had a number of conversations with Jerome off the ice on some on. The approach matters with him I reckon. He’s explained his call. Whether I agree or not, its his call and he will justify it. His justification usually makes sense but what can’t change is what he thought he saw. That might be different to me. But if someone is yelling and swearing, not many refs will give you a sympathetic ear. That’s not a support of him and his performance or anything. You can make your own mind, which you have as will I. He is approachable though but maybe in a different manner than Chris or Paul.
I think it would be great though if we had atleast a half dozen or more refs who have the experience to take a game. With more games being played in the league, I’m sure more will develop. Until then…..
vpatrolMemberas plod said, the actual man advantage was negligible compared to the actual minutes recorded. We just didn’t get 10 min penalties. Stampede had the only 5 on 3 of the game and they got it late. They also scored on it. For all the guys in the box in the end, the game finished with 5 on 5. What deserved to be called was called for the most part.
Sometimes a team is penalized more than the other. It’s not always because the ref is in our pockets, its sometimes because they deserved more penalties. Maybe we got away with a few and maybe Stampede did too. I can’t say without being biased. The only one that I saw that was really complained about was Glassy not getting a penalty shot. Got a penalty but not a shot. Could have gone either way but I was focussing on the puck so I didn’t get as good a look as I would have liked.
I think we were better on the day though. On saturday, Stampede was better. Both teams got the points they deserved.
That being said, I question the wisdom of accusing the ref of being a 7th man while the game is still on. If I was a ref, I can’t imagine being very sympathetic to a team who accused me of cheating. Not the best strategy and frankly deserving of another penalty (which he didn’t get). Regardless, we have the refs we have, won’t change this year. Move on. The senior guys on stampede have I’m sure.
vpatrolMemberI’m going for the underdogs to win one but I won’t put even a dollar on it. Stampede on a bad day are hard to handle. I don’t think they are too worried and rightly so. Thunder need some more players and a different approach to compete. Next year maybe.
vpatrolMemberto reiterate I AM NOT THE BEST
I try hard and I’m a pretty handy back-up goalie who can start if needed in this league. I’m not the fastest but not the slowest. I’m not the youngest but not the oldest (thanks Parsons). I don’t need to be the best goalie in the league nor is that the aim of any goalie I should hope. I just want to be better than the other guy on the day and give their team a chance to win. I strive to improve and as long as I can still keep up, I’ll try. Doesn’t bother me that teams like the Stampede think I am crap. Young Jofa can trash me if he likes, I’m not threatened. It’s motivational occasionally. Makes me try harder. Either way, I don’t think I’m the best. I know how to make guys the best though, just can’t do it for myself. C’est la vie.

We need to realise that two good teams, the games are going to be close, they are going to be physical, emotions are going to run high, those factors need to be considered for as factors when reffing, we could look clinical and say things are clear cut black and white, but they are not and everything is viewed differently, for instance
#10 tripped from behind on a breakaway
call 1 no call
call 2 penalty
call 3 penalty shot
Stampede got call 2, devils wanted call 1 Stampede wanted call 3Plod games thus far i have been impressed with the best year for refs yet allowing flow and calling evenly that one not the best yet and thats my veiw with with no eye patch
[/quote:oap40hwy]That was a tough call. I wouldn’t have been surprised if the call went either way. It was a penalty though. I had no doubt of that. Relieved it wasn’t a penalty shot but again, wouldn’t have been surprised if it was. Then again, I was watching the puck and not the d-man and what he was doing to Glassy so maybe Jerome saw something else. He was pretty close.

He just thinks he’s the man and talks lik he’s the man but he’s not he is just a mid thirty year old man who sits on his little computer trying to sound smart about hockey via his little forum
[/quote:36i3peax]Your entitled to your opinion even though there’s a very high chance you haven’t got the slightest clue about goaltending. Do you even play hockey?
