One more thing, why does Vince have control of the forum when he doesnt even play or live in Dunedin?????? Not trying to be mean Vince but i think this is a fact?
[/quote:27r4el8b]I don’t control anything by the way. I pulled something from public view for other moderators to look at. It’s not deleted. Also being on the outside looking in, I’m a decent opinion on what is going to make Dunedin hockey look bad and what is appropriate. Plus I’m old and learned rules on how to play nice a while ago!

[/quote:2ze1lhss]I took it off so other moderators could look at it to deem whether it was appropriate or not based on forum rules. Bit too much slagging of individuals in it.
vpatrolMemberI smell a tv3 made for tv movie. ” title=”Smiley” />
Devils won 10-1 on sat and 11-0 on sunday by the way. Eaden had about 8 points on sunday. Pad his leading stats totals.

[/quote:1cvod8lk]I’m not really sure what this discussion is achieving. The cost to enter a team in the national league is quite high, a lot of this comes from the players. If putting a bunch of logos on the top and around the rink reduces this cost to the players, great. Sure it might not look as good, but for a few hundreds bucks less cost I wouldn’t care what I skated in.
Good on Thunder for getting out there and signing up the companies. If other teams want to do something different, good for them.
[/quote:1cvod8lk]Because national league is more important than the players competing this year.
vpatrolMemberIf I had the old canucks jersey, I would change it too. I suspect the next group of thunder players would be the same. Look at original 6 teams. How different are their jerseys from the original?

When the french league is a league worthy of emulating, I’ll take a look at their jerseys. It’s like saying, those mogolians sure have got it right, let’s follow them! ” title=”Wink” />
vpatrolMemberI have dvd’s and memories of the oilers hoisting cups. They stink at the moment but atleast they aren’t the leafs
vpatrolMemberIs there a reason the NHL is the most popular hockey league in the world as far as marketing and merchandise sales? I don’t see many HC Davos shirts in the shops. As a person who has bought supporter jerseys in the past, I would be pretty disappointed when 3 years later, every logo on the jersey is irrelevent because all the sponsors have changed. However the oilers jersey I bought in the early 90’s is still pretty current because of one important logo. I’m pretty happy about that as a fan.
vpatrolMemberit does take longer. You can add a minimum of one year to Dunedin’s wait due to the sudden change of jerseys that will be far less recognizable than the jersey from year 1.
Might be worth mentioning that all the jerseys quoted are not hockey jerseys. Thunder play hockey. Different sport, different fans, different approach.
vpatrolMembernow take all of those logos and put them all on one shirt. And then change the springbok color to something else. Change the manchester united color to blue. Wallaby to purple etc and see if there is any brand recognition anymore. I bet you would see a massive drop in jersey sales.
vpatrolMember"Active":rf10am4l wrote:I remember that now. In that case Thunder were playing rugby against a chess playing Devils
[/quote:rf10am4l]Nope, we were a rugby team. The amount of times we left the corner with the puck means crash and bang works too. The Canadians swear by it. I would wager that the Canadian way of playing hockey is not obsolete because of the most recent worlds and olympics.
vpatrolMemberAlthough Al is off my xmas list and I’m also critical of some things Bode did as a “professional” coach, I was impressed how Bode imparted a system onto a bunch of players who previously thought a system was an Xbox. When the team lost last year, it was because of a lack of fitness and simply not doing what they had learned. It wasn’t because they didn’t know how to play. Bode was good at video analysis and teaching a bunch of adults things that normally would have been taught to peewees.
Also though, Bode did not give any team wall material. When media asked how we will do, she would always see “We’ll see”! You won’t find any of her quotes in the opponents dressing rooms as motivation. She acted professionally while in the public’s eye. That included while on the bench.
Last years game was 16-4 by the way (I can’t remember a 17 to 1)and no disrespect to this years Thunder team but having played in both games, last years team was able to get more sustained pressure in the zone and were a bit more threatening when comparing game to game. Plus Toby who played the bulk of that game had a groin injury. He’ll show you the photo’s too! ” title=”Wink” /> Both teams were different though so the comparisons aren’t terribly valid.
If you are comparing one year to the next, final stats may help. Also attendance, team morale, community satisfaction, sponsor retention etc. Lots of different things. Plus how the Thunder respond next weekend says a few things.
vpatrolMemberHowever the branding for a team shouldn’t be primarily sponsors logos which change from year to year. Imagine All Blacks jerseys with Harvey Norman and Air New Zealand splashed all over it. Destroys the image. NHL Hockey teams have been very good about keeping the most important logo as the team’s. The name on the front is more important than the name on the back…..and errrrr….everywhere else! North America gives the sponsors rink adverts, naming rights, program pages etc etc. They don’t make the players walking billboards. I think there is something positive in that.
vpatrolMember"thirteen":1y6vvpce wrote:Still funny and even funnier what active says about no one going after james at all after that.
[/quote:1y6vvpce]I don’t think James is a dirty player and I’ll defend him on that but his hits can be borderline and I even told him I thought that one was (calmly after the game). Of course a team will be angry when a player gets hurt badly on a questionable call. Not saying it was an intentional dirty hit but I don’t think it was clean either. I’ve seen hits like that seriously injure a players head, neck and back. Never was it laughable!
Revenge on James is not our style especially with a scoreline like we had. If it ever came to it, there are a few guys on the team who would step up. Fear wasn’t what held them back.
vpatrolMemberOur team doctor spent quite some time checking him out and monitoring him. Hits are fine but hurting people isn’t. From peewee to nhl, when a hurt player gets up, the opposing team slaps his stick on the ice because they don’t want to see injuries. They don’t laugh. The merits of the hit don’t matter. Laughing at a player who went head first into the boards and is clearly hurt is poor form in any league at any level.
vpatrolMember"thirteen":unsh8ixd wrote:yea, heads are up. it was a bit of a strange feeling because it felt like we were playing quite well, a lot better than the score reflected. they are a good team though you are right.
But who saw james put the guy through the door! first or second shift! quality stuff! and thanks for being alert after the whistle kyle, good man, reffing was flawless yesterday
[/quote:unsh8ixd]He was hurt pretty bad on that play Blake. His face was first to hit the boards. So if you enjoy the types of hits that really threaten the health of a player (clean or otherwise) then you will understand why you were dropped after gloating following that hit. Nobody should gloat when a player gets hurt like that. That was a poor show on your part.
