Well its great to see how much you guys are doing, but i agree with Stefan, why not have one player a week from Thunder just help out at  Peewee practice, the kids would love it.
I would very much like to play for Thunder or even just parctice with them, I think I am good enough.
You are right Thunder is a great thing for the club, I am pleased to be informed by all of you.
Thanks for proving me wrong.  I actually think Thunder will do well this year because i can see how much support they have and it seems like
    the new coach is great.

What each player chooses to do is up to him.  Throwing around ideas about what these players should do with their time is wrong.  Don’t forget that they are already committing a large amount of time to the team and probably have responsibilities outside of hockey.  If individuals turn up to help out peewees, great.  If they don’t, nothing negative should be said.  Otherwise we can start pointing fingers at every parent who hasn’t taken a coaching course or trains and vounteers their time as a referee.

Glad you see things different banana but maybe we should ask you whether you coach a team or ref or volunteer your time to hockey?  There was a coaching course recently in dunedin.  Did you attend?

    Hey Vince, Ryan.
I have been in Dunedin for quite a while and I really liked Thunder last year.  And Ryan… i do realise that Thunder is part of the SIHL, but they still use our ice and affect our club and players.   I believe that Pete does not play for Thunder anymore, and even if he did thats two players out of A WHOLE team, thats not that many.  I just think Thunder has taken Dunedin players that used to be involved in dihl, coaching etc, to becoming isotated from the rest of the club and players.   I do think it is great for the players in Thunder, but what about the ones who are not.
    [/quote:1uakhwfq]

If you are not in the Thunder, then play hard and try out for the team.  Do not punish those who aspire for more.  They don’t take your ice.  In fact, its not your ice to take.  Most of those players achieved exactly what was hoped for by the DIHA; improvement and advancement.  They’ve come up through the ranks.  The 5+ juniors on the team would stagnate in the DIHL if that was their only competition.  The SIHL offers more competition however no structured training.

Without Thunder, every region in NZ would progress well past Dunedin.  Dunedin kids would still flounder well into the future and with nothing to shoot for, and they would eventually quit after a year or two.  So for those who care about hockey and don’t look at it in a short sighted manner, realize Thunder are one of the best things to happen to Dunedin.

Mighty big words from you banana.  Generally a first post is “hi, how are you?”, instead of an attacking post.  Since you mention your knowledge, how about telling us your name so we can judge your knowledge?  Otherwise you will be lumped in with the know-nothings.  My money is on a know nothing.  My name is Vince.

A couple weeks ago, Janos and I were coaching some kids and then when discovered no refs were coming for the upcoming game, we were forced into service.  Janos being a former member of the Hungarian national team, who were in the IIHF top division this year took the lead role.  I have played hockey since 1986 at various levels and I think I know the rules and game well.  To put it bluntly, we sucked!  We quickly realized we sucked and never really thought we would be anything but sucky.  It’s a whole different ball game.

I would be awesome officiating from the sidelines but once on the ice, it goes pear shaped.  So those who willingly choose to take up officiating realizing they will suck for a while and get yelled at in the process, get a thumbs up from me.  Improvement should always be sought and I think most refs do try.  Mistakes are made but its not from lack of effort.  Practice takes time.

    Ah, that would make sense.

So is Jens still the unofficial head coach? Or is this mystery man actually calling the shots?

Only thing I could find on that name is a 22 year old goalie.  I’ve never heard of him.  I’m sure it will come out soon enough.

Jens can’t be the head coach.  Only an assistant can be a player coach.

lead with only your hip and/or shoulders and keep your stick on the ice.  You then won’t get dinged for a bad check unless to are hitting them in the numbers.

Ah but you and I know some of those changes are controversial. I don’t know what Oak’s story is, but I presume he just moved?

Mitchell is in flight school in Canty.  Toby was recomended by me cause we didn’t have anyone else as a playable 3rd goalie.  He was cut by Dunedin so not really controversial.  I think Rick Parry can adequately eat up the 5 games I appeared in last year unless you guys really wanted me to play <img decoding=” title=”Wink” />.  Although you have failed to fill your deaf quota this year.  Discriminatory bastards!  Canty filled its diabled quota with my selection.

And my Ducks are heading into Joe Louis Arena for game 7, which would be a pretty big upset if they could pull it off. Still getting most of their scoring from their top line/#1 powerplay unit, and Hiller, after a couple of average games, big in game 6.

I’ll take experience over youth in a big series almost everytime.  Detroit should take it in the end

Hell of a game and big series. I thought Ducks were going to steal it for a while there. Ducks lose it on the powerplay in that final game – unable to score on a couple of 5 on 3s, Red Wings were good but it’ll be interesting to see how they go against Chicago.
