Like I said it’s a preliminary roster and they need CIHA approval first. Oh and it’s the Phantoms we are playing, maybe Vpatrol could assist on that one.
[/quote:p1leq8gc]Phantoms aren’t a prem team so it will be a hodge podge team I reckon. Whether they all show its a crap shoot. I was even a late replacement for Ericson during Easton Cup. If Kazala shows, he will be handful enough for you. lol.

[/quote:1vm51qnj]Yes, but everyone I met over there admits that they’re useless and annoying! But they still have them.

So presumably the Red Devils unless I’ve got it wrong – which is highly possible.
Ryan,

I highly doubt it would be the Red Devils. Not only since it doesn’t sound like a nzihl sanctioned thing but also because they wouldn’t care to come from what I know of them (being a former one once upon a time). It would probably just be a combo of players from prem and A grade. Anyone who volunteers would be my guess.

That would be awesome to watch ” title=”Smiley” /> ” title=”Smiley” /> ” title=”Smiley” /> I’ll definitely be coming to watch if that’s the case ” title=”Smiley” />

Canterbury has 4 premier teams playing eachother. 3 regular teams plus the SNC team playing in the league but always non contact even when playing the contact teams.

Janus maybe good, but people arn’t going to know that.Talk about New Zealands National league, indicate the teams in it, I may have missed it but did it mention the Auckland teams at all?
Say its being going for a couple of years, say it has got to a level were foreign players, from good Ice hockey countries, want to come here to play in it, to highlight the level it has got to. Instead of telling us about the imports.
Perhaps even mention there is a cap on the foreign players,I don’t know it just rubbed me the wrong way, if it was meant to promote national league, it failed,I mean my mum watched and thought it was about “People from weird countries playing Ice hockey in New Zealand” (not to politically correct my mum)
She didn’t realise it was about National League at all.[/quote:3g0kb31f]
Having watched the video, I don’t think it was meant to promote the league in general. One must remember that tv3 is going to pitch what they find interesting for their viewers, not what the NZIHL would like them to say. They focussed on a specific team mainly because they think the top player comes from there. I think it serves a great purpose in that it shows people that there is in fact some good hockey being played in NZ. Going over details like where all the teams are and what the import rules are is not very interesting. Informative perhaps but not interesting. This was an interest piece. I think it serves ice hockey well. Any exposure is good. I’m sure the league and those involved with hockey would have liked to see more but that was not the target audience. It was meant for people who aren’t involved with hockey. A snapshot. I think its positive. My two cents.
vpatrolMemberJanos is probably the top individual player in the league. He certainly has individual skills but what he brings to the table is his smarts. He just makes him line mates better. That’s really the test of a top player. That is why imports are important for the league and garner the media attention. They raise the level of the game in markets that are tough to develop on their own.
Stampede have 5 imports as well by the way. 4 candians (me, Lewis, Haines, Bonazzo) and 1 italian. I think the Devils rely much more heavily on their imports. Take away the swedes and Janos and they have a much different looking team.
vpatrolMemberwe had 74 minutes of penalties in the first game. 30 mins in the first period. It took all of one minute for us to take 2 penalties and play 5 on 3. lol.
vpatrolMemberalthough he did get some time yesterday too, the promotion to the top line was partially due to Braden being suspended. Stefan did well though. Had a few shots on net. Had a real nice tip that Gareth just got a piece of.
vpatrolMemberWhen we get away from our game, then we get destroyed. We can’t play Canterbury short-handed the whole game. They are too good for that. However, when we play 5 on 5, we are the better team. We got our heads into it for the second game of both weekends.
vpatrolMember2nd game ended with a 6-2 score favoring the Stampede. Much better game. We dictated more. Refs still binned us a lot but the penalties were closer this time. Sat night saw us end with 74 mins worth. Better effort today all around. Now I just have to learn how to stop a puck on a penalty kill and I’ll be sweet.

Why not run a contest and a subsequent vote? Let all the young/old players submit their choices to name the team. You get a whole heap of choices and its not just restricted to a few people. It gives the wider hockey community more of a sense of ownership which can only bode well further down the track when you might conceivably need their support. It’s an expensive endeavor to create a team and get all the jerseys, clothing etc sussed. Take the time now and get it right so you won’t regret it later. What a few people think is good now, a whole lot of people could think is rubbish later. [/quote:3a1f1k4a]Too late, those decisions have been made sorry. Those suggestions needed to come in weeks ago.
Ryan,

Unless jerseys are at the printers, why is it too late? Deadlines are arbitrary unless there is some physical reason is needs to be done by a certain date. Just curious because clearly there doesn’t seem to be widespread support for any name or concept.
vpatrolMemberIs there any hockey at the moment on say a wed, thur, or fri? I’m going to be in town and was hoping for a skate whether as a goalie or otherwise.
vpatrolMember"Azzy77":16m2k549 wrote:I wasn’t suggesting that everyone gets equal ice-timeJust the Dunedin boys found out the same time about the practises as everyone else, and they had to travel to get to practise a lot further than a lot of the team, though not as much as you Vince.
And the fact they got no ice time, was not meant to be about it should be shared most of us understand that the coach has to win, and in order to do that he needs top play who he feels will get the job done for him, but rather could have be used as an excuse to yourself (this is merely my opinion, in no way represtative of any other peoples views) for not showing, “what will coach do bench me??”The practises were scheduled late sure, but the SIHL rounds were scheduled two months ago, everyone knew when they were. So even if the players had short notice about Practise, they knew there was a Premier round this weekend.
Surely they would have wanted to play some hockey after last weekend, since they didn’t know about this practise, even if they thought they would walk away with the round (which recent results in SIHL suggest wouldn’t be foregone) they could have used the games as opposed training sessions, to work on defensive patterns and breakouts etc.
Also why did they not schedule training for today or tommorow(given it is a long weekend) knowing full well that Premier round was on Saturday, and indications from Stampede Management earlier in the season that Stampede trainings would not effect SIHL, so Dunedin players had every right to go play Premier roundLastly I would like to reiterate these are personal opinions based on what I know about the situation and not reflecting anyone elses ideas, if they come across as bashing I apologize, they are meant to be rational arguements, based upon information I have, if I am out of line please tell me and set the record straight…….
I realize there is pressure to win for the Stampede, and that it is a tough job being a coach, but I just feel that things could be handled a little better thats all.
Peace out[/quote:16m2k549]
There just seem to be a number of comments floating around, not just on this thread so I’m not singling anyone out. It was a late training for sure but a training none the less. Some traveled far, some not so far. Whether it turns into increased ice time for some or less for others, it should not be expected. Nobody has gotten benched in the traditional sense but based on the few trainings we have all had, one would assume the coaches are going to go with what and who they know in order to execute a game plan, or at least run damage control. Everyone here is pulling for the Dunedin boys obviously but there is a heck of a lot more to it.
It’ll take some time to see how it all pans out. This weekend will be a good test as well.
vpatrolMemberBefore the Stampede and Stampede management bashing gets completely out of hand, maybe a couple things need to be said. Yes the weekend training was in conflict with prem games. It was added very late in response to the “raping” we got in game 1. I would be concerned if no one thought things needed to be done after that. End of the day though, the Stampede management needs to worry about the Stampede regardless of scheduling conflicts. Being the long weekend, many players were not around for various reasons due to short notice. Mostly legit, some not so great, some injured. Regardless of whether some top players show up or not, its the individuals responsibility to make their own effort. I came from chch and certainly would like to have seen more players but even knowing those who showed, I still would have come. I have to take responsibility for myself as 1 of 22. I can’t make my decisions based on whether others turn up or not. Leads to a nasty domino effect. Those who did show up, their presence was noticed. We got a practice in that will certainly help those who attended. More players turned up for the later practice and we did some more work. The NZIHL isn’t meant to be a league where you pay your money and you get equal ice time. I have to earn my time just like everyone else. Where you prove it is in the training. It was good that the Dunedin players showed for the first part. I’m sure coach was disappointed that they and many players couldn’t be there for the second training. Natural enough. A coach needs players to coach. Regardless of reasons, its still disappointing. Bickering about ice time really shouldn’t be a part. It’s only two games into the season. First game was horrible so things haven’t settled yet. A few more games need to happen until the burnings and stoning should occur. If we treat it like a bush league, then it will be a bush league. The players who don’t take it seriously will eventually be found out. Those who have worked hard, will eventually get in assuming the practice has paid off and their play improves. Just like any real team in sports, nothing is gifted.
